House work time

It was time for a new roof, no leaks but the shingles where getting up in years and some where curling. I went with a well known local contractor. He used certainteed lifetime architectural shingles, 6ft of ice and an underlayment barrier.

Thanks and yeah happy to check that of the list. been picking at things over the years for sure. next project is in the spring..that wall that runs next to the drive isn't in great shape so it' scoming out and a versa lok wall is going in + a new paver walk way in the front at the same time to get rid of the big square blocks and stone . Then on the futur list new siding this stuff is faded and thin, detached garage and deck.

got the house for a really, really good price + 15yr mortgage fixed. needed some work on the inside, stayed at my inlaws and did some work on the inside, and turned the down stairs into a 4th bedroom, living room and laundry room + room for the furnace, etc. most ranches don't have windows on the ends or atleast mine didn't, in the pic the end windows are different from the main ones which we added and a huge sliding picture window on the other end in the living room, raised the ceiling in the bathroom and added a skylight ( can see it in one of the pics) and 2 exhaust fans on timers. in the living room we cut the wall going to the basement in 1/2 and chopped the door in 1/2 to open the living room and so you can see the downstairs..

The area behind the TV would have been a solid wall for the stairs to the cellar, after we finished off it we cut out and framed it to open the room up, I took this pic to show the old door..

when you do it I would recommend certainteed, nice products. you can go on thier website and they have a projects section with a bunch of different house styles or load a pic of you house in (for a fee). you can choose different shingle colors and styles and siding colors to see what it would look like. if you call them they have a list of contractors in your area that are certified by them ( my guy was on the list also, I was curious ) if needed.

Thanks Josh. yeah no crap they are and after the storms they are crossing the borders to get here . I called my buddies down at the station to get some reviews, he has a good rep in town and the area. I was nervous I was going to pay high and not get anyone with the tornado and other damage, but nothing going on now for teh most part they are all waiting for the insurance companies to get of thier cans, I got a decent price and only waited about 5wks until he could get to me.

Sad but these insurance companies need to move, winter is coming. Brimfield, and my area still have tarps on the roofs and boarded windows . wtf ??
some work is going on but it is sparce.

I have never seen a tarp used to catch the debris from roof removal. It's a neat trick and undoubtedly saved your yard and a lot of clean up afterward.

The tarp trick made clean up nice and saved my bushes. They also go around the house, drive and street with a magnet to pick up nails, rake up and use a blower to finish up. total pros IMHO. He also had his own dump trailer so didn't have to pay for dumpster or have marks in my drive a big +.
