So i finally got off my vibration damper and realized what I was doing wrong......there was a little piece that I was supposed to slip over the end of the the bolt that went through the center of the tool (the one that applies pressure to push off the damper)....so without that piece on there the bolt kept working it's way farther and farther into the crank...

Here's the tool and the piece I didn't put on and the aftermath in the hole...can't really see in there..in fact the pic below is the best view I have.....You can see without the tip on it was too narrow and just kept going farther in

I know.......I messed up......do I have something to worry about here or should i be ok?..............dammit

If it didn't chew up the threds on the crank it should be fine. As long as you can still bold the pulley ( i assume you are putting on pulleys) on and it doesnt shake or wobble it shouldn't cause any problems. I had a similar problem with mine. A buddy put them on wrong and i had to fix it but no damage was caused.

That is hard to say. You need to clean out the front of the crankshaft and see what the threads look like. I would not be surprised if you got the first couple of threads. If so you need to get a tap and clean them up.

That looks like it's going to be ugly, but it is fixable with a tap, just make sure you tap into it very straight.

As others have said, first get the tap for the original size threads. Clean out the threads. If there many threads gone at all, you can get the right size heli coil at Napa. I have first hand knowedge on this, as some debris got in mind and chewed up the threads. I was told by the ford dealer, and about five other shops I would need a new crank. It has now lasted over 70,000 miles with the heli coil with no problems at all. I had to take the radiator out to get the drill in there straight, but other than that it wasn't a big deal.

dammit sadly you say that right when i'm about to f*** the crank up....

It's frustrating doing things for the first time......It's supposed to be harder to put back together than taking it apart, but I don't feel that's going to be the case here.

there's a decent amount of threads gone, you can see just from the tool.....but it's good to hear that you had good luck with the heli coil....I'm going to look into that....

I started this project just because of a blown spark plug......so by rational, maybe I should replace the whole block eh?

Personally I find nearly all of your posts entertaining, as you seem to be at least moderately intelligent and appear to have a good deal of knowledge to share.

Dude......keep on truckin....Despite screwing up my car, after i read your last post i laughed.....it's better to laugh about things when sh++ happens eh.....

I cleaned her out and I have about half my threads left in there....

Think that will do with the addition of some loctite?

I don't know man...it is the crank pulley. You don't want to have that thing fly off at 5000 RPM's. Try the tap route and see if that works.

I did the same thing. Once it got tough to turn I stopped and realized I was doing something wrong. That is when I realized I need that exact piece you show in the picture.

How many threads is that? You need to see / measure how far in the bolt will go. You may have enough threads but will need a long bolt to use them.

even if half the threads are left in there will the bolt still start? you have a very good chance of cross threading it. I would clean it out with a tap and see how it holds.. Other repair options are a helicoil

well i put the damper back on to see and it's threaded in about 7 1/2 threads.

before I even attempted to put the bolt back i bought a tap so as not to put it on crossthreaded and potentially ruin anymore threads.

If it can torque the bolt to spec then you are fine.
