how big of stall to run

sorry about that i am wanting something for the street..the motor in going in a 1964 galaxie.mostly stock just changing the cam at this time and going with carb not efi.

3:73 gears and a good efficient 2,600-2,800 stall converter

that's a little high on a big heavy car that's "mostly stock" don't you think? He needs the gear for that stall too which is probably gonna be steeper than 3:73s.

Yeah, with so much car, I wouldn't waste my time with anything less than something in the 3,400-3,600 stall range. I'm running a modificed Marauder converter that stalls in the 2,800-2,900 range and I can barely notice a difference over stock...and I'm making a lot more power than you. If I could do it over again, I'd have gone with something in a triple disk design, in at least 3,400RPM range. I'm sure I'm leaving at least 3-4 tenths on the table with my current set up.

Be aware though, the car will feel a little lazy under part throttle operation at lower speeds, but when you load it up and put it to the floor, or flash it quick from a dead stop it'll feel like a whole different car.

that's exactly what I was referring to - how is he going to drive it and what does he want. He doesn't have your power either I would bet.
