How bout a V8 gas burner to V8 diesel?

I was thinking since you don't have to smog a diesel engine. has anyone ever swapped out the 302 for a diesel? I am thinking that may be kind of ridiculous. Any thoughts?

how much work really? i mean this is in the future but I kind of want to have somehting out there no one else has. Since you don't have to smog them you can do whatever you want with them. ANd just destroy people left and right. and right and left and up and down and all ways

Diesels are seriously heavy motors, especially a V8 version, when compared to a gasoline engine. It would make the car very front-heavy, so a straight-line or burnout/exhibition car would be probably be as far as it would go. It probably could be done, if you got a wrecked 3/4 ton diesel puickup truck as a parts vehicle for example (not cheap, even in wrecked form). You'd have to probably make a custom k-member and possibly modify the tranny tunnel/firewall to clear everything. And put a huge rad. in it. As well as a built rearend to handle the torque.

I've seen one project where a guy stuffed a Triton V10 (gasoline) truck engine into a Fox mustang, so it goes to show that with enough fabrication you can stuff some serious cubes into these cars.

To swap to a diesel engine for your Mustang:

Pull the key out of the Mustang, hand it to the dealer. Go to the front of the building (Ford Dealership), pick up key (for a new F350 Super Duty "Powered by Powerstroke") from salesman.

That simple.

Oh yeah, if you're trading-in a 94-95 Mustang, plan on making a payment or two to make the new Powerstroke your very own.

On the upside, you would have TONS of torque...but it might be hard to see around the 10 inch cowl hood lol. But hey, if your pockets are deep enough anything is possible.

Call me crazy, but I do often think of a diesel powered Fox in my furture. For the reason's stated above .... to be different. Plus, a crapload of torque and good MPG.


However, not a V8, lol. For reasons mentioned above. Huge radiator, HEAVY engine, clearances, etc. I was looking at the 4 cylinder Powerstroke. It's used in Ranger's in Brazil. The UK has diesel Ranger's as well ... but I think they may be the Duratorq engines. Ford & International have a project V6 Powerstroke as well. I have seen a couple of the 2.8L Strokes (4 banger) on eBay a little while back.

how much horse and torque can you expect to get out of those 2 engines? i mean I am not looking for the fastest thing out there but hey you never know right?

Smog is on the car not motor.

you will still need to pass either a visual insp. for facotry equiped smog and/or pass a smiffer test.

Also it is illegal to place older "style" motors into newer cars like a 5.0 PR motor into a 04 and be legal...unless it came from a factory builder (aka saleens older s351's that were around until like 2000 or 01).

The whole fuel system and engine managment would need to be replaced. Your better off building a truck from gas to diesel...like say a 94 f150-250 with a cummins.

i would say way too much trouble.
and do u kno of all all the things they are doing for the new 08 ford diesel...they got all kind of stuff to pass emissions!

Just for information purposes...the new 08 6.4 litre diesels have 350 hp, and 650 ft. lb. torque!

diesels suck at gas mileage????

I know a few guys getting 20 to mid 20's in fords, chevy, and dodge. As you tune them for more power and find the sweet spot they get BAD ASS gas mileage for the power levels.

For a big ol' truck to get 20+mpg tow a car/haul stuff and if had in an extented cab or crew cab have room for 4 people...thats a win win win situation. Not to mention with a manual trans will prob. last at least 300k if maintained at all.

I am REALLY thinking about trading in my DD on a 99-7.3 03 extended cab or crew cab F250 in the fall/spring. I have been thinking about trying biodiesel as well...I figured I would have to get 10mpg running 50/50 diesel/biodiesel (every other tank or if possible mixed) to even break even with my DD that gets mid 20's mpg.

You are right. They do! Maybe cuz they do not burn gasoline?


As far as FUEL mileage ... they are great! My big F-250 4x4 has a V-8 diesel. That doesn't stop it from getting 25 MPG.


There are so many truck configurations ... you will hear some owners complain on the MPG. Our WORK truck (08' F-350 Crew Cab 4x4 Dually 6.4L TT) gets only a little over 10 MPG. But that is a huge truck that is always pulling a 14K lb. trailer! It gets WAY better MPG than our old V-10 F-350 (same truck configuration).


And that Brazilian Powerstroke Ranger supposedly gets 45 MPG. As far as power ... diesels are different than gassers. Mine has what ... 135 HP? Yet that big ole truck will still smoke Stangs & Camaro's. As Grady would say ... it's all in the curve!
