if i were to rebuild my 4.6, how would i make it safely rev higher? i like the idea of redlining at 7k like the cobras. could i just buy a forged rotating assembly that can handle the higher RPMS? of course new valve springs and cams are needed. also, i would have to retune the factory computer to make the electronic cutoff higher than the stock 6025 redline, right? is all this possible? anyone done it?

very easy to raise redline. u will need to invest in some better internals, and also u will need to mods to GIVE U ENOUGH POWER TO USE THE EXTRA REV.
i dont know what ur reasoning is for wanting to redline higher; is it so u can think your car is cooler, or is it to serve a purpose like needing the extra tach to not redline at the end of the 1320?

Who doesn't think a 7k 4.6 is cool?.....although the idea of shelling out the green to rev to 7k is a bit......wasteful.........i have asked this similar question on here before....but realized its too much money and can be spent on other things....like?......A KB

If you want to shift at 7K you need to move the factory HP peak which is at 5k to some where's around 6200-6500 RPM. We can start with forged rotating assemble, new cams, port heads, reworked intake and exhaust systems.

or he can just get a tuner/programmer and move the rev limiter up higher...but his engine might not last too long.

you'd be suprised if you read other posts you'd know he's planning on building a new motor and would like to raise his rev limiter... dont be a n00b and start knocking people.

with FI you always want to be in the powerband, ,mr stan weiss isnt I beam rods aimed at higher reving engines

you will need some good cams and then some good valve springs. also a good set of heads to be able to flow enough air at those rpms. if you are going to run some sort of power adder at those rpms i would recommend some forged internals. at higher rpms like that you are putting more stress on the motor.
and if you are going to put a power adder on that thing to rev it to 7k get a centri blower or a turbo to do that. its gonna pull much harder up top.

dude iv been around these cars for Some time.. im no noob.. iv read countless posts of ppl saying they want to raise there redline because it was cool.
i answered the guys question, i just had to ask...cause u never know. so take it down a peg turbo.

Bottom line is your not going to make any more power worth the money of raising your rev limiter. You will need a forged shortblock, .600 springs with titanium hats and locks, upgraded followers, upgraded or solid lash adjusters, completely reworked heads (stage 3 patriots wouldnt do it), good blower cams and a supercharger like an F1a or better.
With out all that raising a 2v rev limiter is pointless.

There are companies that make some nice I beam rods. The higher you want to raise the RPM limit the more it costs. It is a contradiction in some ways. You need stronger parts to rev high yet to rev higher and keep the engine together you want the parts to be lighter.

It definatly can.
Look at the fastest N/A 4.6's at the strip, I garuntee you they spin that high if not higher.
The amount of money it takes to build one is very large though, and not worth it to me.
If you want a motor that will spin 7k all day long go find a STOCK (lol) 4v and swap it over and build an allready more potent motor from there.
Trying to piece together a reasonably priced motor that will actually benefit from 7k RPM isnt going to be feesable IMO.
I'm curious, what mechanically different about the 4v that keeps it from flying apart compared to the 2v. I'm not talking about airflow or making it worth while, only mechanical parts, like rods, rod bolts, and valve springs. I ask because I honestly don't see why you need exotic parts, like titanium valve springs and solid lifters to turn 7k rpm. Ford did it without solid lifters and they had an extra 2 valves to control....
It's not like 7k is THAT fast. I would think better rods and upgraded valve springs should do it. For reference, on my OHC 2.3, you don't need to go to solid lifters until you are spinning 7500+. Is the crank in the 4v different too?

yes all the cobras and m5 machs have a forged crank whil ethe auto machs have a cast crank.
as far as the rods and all that stuff go i have no clue as i never compared my stock 4v parts to some stock 2v parts i have laying around.
ill say pulling my 4v up to its current 7700 rpm limiter is fun though
a 2v that revs to 7k and has the cams and everything to support it would be a fun ride.

You are not going to make any power at 7000rpms with a NA 2v no matter how much you build it. It can not flow air like a 4v. That is why the 4v has a higher rev limit.
