I know this probably had been beaten to death, but can a GT match a Mach 1 with only bolt ons? Not new heads, new cams, blower,no nitrous? Can a 2V match or beat a Mach1, SS, or Lighning at the track with equal drives with only bolt ons?

Sure, you could beat a Mach 1 if you had all the basic bolt-ons, gears, and sticky rubber. The problem is, when the Mach 1 gets the same bolt-ons you have, it'll smoke you again. I love my 2V but it's just hard to compete with the 4V guys given similar mods and drivers. You'd have a better chance against early 4V Cobras than you would a new Mach 1 anyway.

Yes as long as the mach is stock but you have to have about every good bolt-on you can get. Long tubes, offroad pipe, pullies, timing, gears, etc. But, as soon as they start adding things the the mach or cobra, its a different story.

How much of a difference is there in power between the long tube and short tube headers?

You can run with if not beat a mach 1 with some bolt on, if you can Just get the gt flowing better. Bolt ons like headers, h-pipe, mufflers, intake, pullies, chip, and don't forget to bring to good driver.
My friend has a 02 gt with these bolt on and beat a mach 1, very close race though.
Lets not forget the mach 1 was stock.

I walked on a mach 1 even on top end , all i had at the time was a off road hpipe and flowmaster catback and k&n drop in with the silencer removed , but had a guy with a 96 cobra put half a car length on me from a dead take off , he got better traction off the line and we stayed even to 120 plus mph . So it just depends on traction and what mods they have done , cobra had a cold air and flowmasters welded in .
