How can we make a custom 64/65 speedometer?

So you want to keep the sweeping speedo and idiot lights?? I've seen white replacements, but i dont think a CF one is avail. You'd likely have to cut a piece of cf to match shape and have a vinyl graphics guy make a you an overlay copy of the stock cluster. If you do go this route, i can refer you to a very reputable stickerguy who can do the decal overlay.

It seems like it would get kinda pricey to do that style tho, and you cant monitor much with the Idiot lights. If wanting to keep the stock appearence is your goal, id look into a 65GT/66 cluster and drop in the CF autometers. Bobv and has a nice writeup and there are countless other threads on that.

How's this for a quick PhotoShop?

Now I can cut it to fit to at least see how it looks. I also downloaded the Fuel and Water Temp 2 5/8" AutoMeter Carbon Fiber gauges. I'll insert them as well.

If it comes out I'll try to take a picture.

I'd either apply the vinyl numbering over the cf... or lay the inverse of the vinyl numbering down and use it as a stencil/template and paint onto the cf, then pulling the decal off.

Easiest of all, have a decal of your entire finalized image printed and slap that over your stock cluster. They have so many diff levels of vinyl texture/gloss etc, so a printed image of cf could likely be done to look decent. It would require way less time too, and if you dont like it, pull it off.

*edit* didnt see the the above post...that seems much easier :D

there are also carbon fiber "decals" available from different graphics places
No need to BUY decals. Just print out this pic on your PC printer, cut it out, then glue it on. :D

Ok so I took my quick photoshop carbon fiber speedo and placed it in my gauge cluster with copies of the fuel and water just to give me the idea of how it would look.

I also then took a bit more time and produced a new and better looking photoshop carbon fiber speedo. Came out much better.

See the before and after. Hopefully I can make it look ok doing it myself. I reveived quotes of $600 for a custom gauge? :(

It will take me a while, but after I modify and repaint the bezel, purchase the fuel and water gauges I'll post some pics. If I think it looks cheap I wouldn't use it, don't worry.
