How Did You Torque Your Driveshaft?

Having hell of a time of finding a wrench combo that will fit the driveshaft companion flange bolts with either of my torque wrenches and still have a solid contact. Everything kinda leaves it at a nasty angle, I really don't want to strip one of these bolts. What did you use to get a good grip on those bolts?

12mm wrench is all you need. I know there is a torque spec, but it's not a critical area. Just make sure you put plenty of loctite on them. I've never torqued them down with a torque wrench.

Some heat from a torch will loosen that wretched loctite

I hate that stuff

A swivel socket and a torque wrench will work. I believe the torque spec is 75-85 lb. ft. and as mentioned above, it's a 12 point 12mm bolt.

You can't use a swivel with a torque wrench. If you absolutely have your heart set on a torque wrench, you can jack the car way up, and lower the axle all the way down. Then you can get in there with about a 12" extension. Not worth it in my opinion.

Thanks for the ideas guys. So far a box wrench has been the only real champ on tightening these 4 bastards. I put on a multi point 12mm with a short extension to try to reach around the edge and its just not flush enough for my liking to give it a real go. Of course you gotta keep the wheels locked down during the whole operation so that means they need to be on the ground for me. Such a not fun way to finish a car.

I used a box end wrench on the head, and slipped another box end wrench over the open end of that wrench as a cheater bar. Works to break them loose the first time, and tighten the crap out of them ever since.

You first might wanna jack the car up and turn the drive shaft so you car get the wrench on it flush. There's a certain spot that the socket will fit flush in but you gotta have it jacked up and in neutral so you can turn the drive shaft. A car lift with a dewalt cordless impact is ideal lol.

Yup, then after you turn it to that sweet spot put the e-brake on to help keep it from turning or put it in gear (forward or reverse depending on which way you are turning the bolts...loosening or tightening).

I just jamb my feet up against tires. Saves time, unless you have someone else to keep pull the e-brake for you.

That works too if you're not laying on a creeper...lol

I always forget about the creeper rolling and half the time when laying under the car and I first go to remove a bolt I end up just pulling myself further under the car

I put the tires on a couple blocks, that was more than enough clearance for me to get under there and hit it with a box wrench and some locktite. I was damn near bending the wrench while tightening, so i hope it holds.

I gave up on creeper's years ago. About all they are good for is jambing your arm skin under the wheels.
