how do i find out what rear end gears i had stock?

hey guys....i finally bought a speedcal to correct my speedometer from the 373s...never got around to buying the speedo gears or anything...im ready to install it but i need to know what stock gears i had...i never really payed attention to the stocker gears. i just swapped them out in favor of the 373s and was done with it....is there anyway i can find out? when i bought the car almost 10 years ago, it didint have the doorjam sticker and i now have a fms chrome rear end cover(installed with gears), so im trully lost to what gears it had.....any help would be appreciated..thanks

oh,does anybody ohknow how to adjust for tire size?i cant finld the darn calculator

A 5spd would be 273's... auto is 306 I think???

Did you keep the old gears? I still have my stock 2.73's. If you have them just count the teeth and divide and you will know for sure.

thats the thing dude, i didint keep them nor the stock cover....and my car didint come with the doorjarm sticker

i know its either 273s, 308s, or 327s

My 5-speed has 3.08's, so says the tag on the diff.

96darkhorse, I would guess your original gears were 3.08's. Then either have a friend pace you or use a GPS to determine your actual speed. If your speedometer is accurate, good guess! If it's still higher than your actual speed, you had 2.73's. If your speedometer is now lower, you had 3.27's.

I think I got that right.

Almost all the 5 speeds came with 3.08:1 gears, and the autos came with 2.73:1. If the car was a 5 speed, then there is a 95% it came with 3.08:1.
