I need a gun..how do I become legal?

You mean a 'FOID' card.
Go to a gun shop and they will take care of it. You'll need a picture ID (driver's license) and they will give you the form to fill out. They will take your picture. Pay the fee($5 I think) and they will submit to the state.

The state police will do a background check and if ok, you'll get the new card in the mail.

If you live within the Chicago city limits, it's illegal to possess a gun. The suburbs are fair game though.

if you live in indiana, you can get a license to carry a concealed weapon, plus, you don't need a foid card to purchase a firearm.

Only hand guns are illegal within the city limits. My shotgun is all legal
