How do I know if I have a Chinese Cobra?

As with all mods, don't focus on the peak gain. That's supra doucheness.... Focus on the remapped curves due to different runner lengths and airflow. .3 is an easy pickup with a stock 5.0 considering the heads and intake are pretty restrictive.

okay intake part number is as follows rf-f87e-9k461-ba

Consider picking up a '96-early-'97 Explorer intake as well. The lower is identical to the Cobra. You'll probably pick up a complete used upper and lower Explorer intake for what you would pay for just a Cobra lower.

I'd be willing to bet that most used "Cobra" lower intakes being sold out there are really just Explorer intakes someone has missrepresented in order to ask a higher dollar amount for.

Actually...when you bought the ford racing kit sold from Ford up to 2003...it came with an explorer lower intake woth the act and coolant ports drilled and tapped.

So most "kit intakes" out there do in fact use an explorer lower.

In fact, the number he posted is an explorer lower, so sounds like its a kit intake, especially if it has an F3 upper

Well either way wheather its a true cobra upper or a pre chinese frpp im happy. I got it for $200 bucks

$200 is a great deal.

I got really lucky and got a complete running '96 Explorer engine (Cobra-esque intake/GT40 heads) for the paltry sum of $300.

The Explorer intake may perform every bit as well as its Cobra and GT-40 predecessors, but I wish it was as pretty. Gonna keep my eye out for a nice intake plaque to replace the stock one. Maybe that’ll dress it up a little?
