I want to replace my pony emblem on my 97 cobra, with a snake emblem i just purchased, but the screw ford used has some kind of weird head on it. It kinda looks like a torx head, but it has a raised dot in the middle. It seems like a trick to make you buy a tool from ford, or have to go to the dealership to get it removed. I tried to go to the dealership to find the tool and they said they didnt sell one?

Is it an SVT dealrship? Because thats where youd have to got to get the right tool most likely. They have twice as many tools as a non-SVT dose.

Its a tamper proof torx bolt. Its a torx with a small pin in the middle. Go to a sears or other store and buy the bits.

I confronted the same problem. I went to the dealership - it wasn't even an SVT Dealer - and asked them to borrow the bit for 30 seconds. The service rep told me that the technicians didn't like outsiders handling their tools, so I asked the rep if he could do it. This was a strange and new idea to him; he looked dumbfounded. He then promptly walked away, got the tool and put the new emblem on right in front of me.

i had those on my centercaps on my truck, i used a flathead screwdriver and it got it off without a problem, but the pin didnt press in on mine, dont know if yours do. Also, i had one with the raised pin in it and i took a torx bit and drilled a hole in the center and rigged it up

yeah most of us don't thats because we have about the price of a new mustang gt invested in tools and people like to steal. so that ruins it for a honest guy who just wants to remove a emblem.
