OK, im planning on buying a new door shell instead of trying to bend mine into shape and bondo. I figure its the best way. my question is does anyone have or know where to get the instructions for putting all the pieces in the new door. Its the drivers side door. Im just wondering if there is anything tricky involved in this process. I will be taking all of the old hardware i.e. locks, handle mechanism all internal rods and window regulator, window, etc. out of the old door and putting it in the new door. is there anything in particular u need a special tool for etc. I just want to make sure an amatuer like me can accomplish this kind of task. also, another dumb question, how do you take off the door? any help is appreciated!

getting it off isn't too bad. just the door has to be open to just the right angle and then take off the bolts that go to the frame where the fender is mounted on.. if that makes any sense.. I think there are three for each hinge.. just a matter of getting an extension or I can't really remember what.

I have always wanted to try this but it is a daunting task. The window regulator and all of the lock and window parts...WOW! There are assembly manuals available through vendors that offer a lot of diagrams. You will also need the Ford manual for adjustment afterwards. If I were going to do it, and I still might, I would take off the old door and cut it open with a jigsaw or sawzall so I could see how everything was put together. Take a BUNCH of pictures and make sure they come out good before you touch anything. Then go to work. Many items you will want to replace like window rollers and clips so I would look through a catalogue and have all of this on hand before starting. If you have to wait for parts, you might forget what you have done.
If you do this, post pics!!!!

unluckyengineer....go for it. I really need to replace both of my doors and I've been unable to find any good resources online. I think Dave makes some good suggestions. I've used photos on all of my project so far...nice to have a point of reference.

Take pictures and post!
