How do you fix the rattle in the dash/middle vents?

Mine does that too....It seems to help when I put pressure on the vent with my hand. I was thinking about maybe lining the middle vent with like a velvet strip or something that would not be visible (If I could take it apart without f'ing it up). I'm not sure though.

hey I have an 03 DSG GT also with the same problem lol

hook us up with that part number, I doubt the dealership here will cover it on my car lol

I don't want to take mine in for little **** like this because I don't want them to void my powertrain warranty because of my h-pipe, tune, and shifter. Also I don't want to remove all of the **** just for a few rattles and seals and have to put it all back on. :(

"The vent rattle is fixed by simply replacing the barrel vent with an improved part. The part # for the replacement vent is 3R3Z-19893-AB. The old vent is pryed out of the opening using a small screw driver on the outside edge and the new vent is just snapped into place. The rattle is caused by "detachment of the air vanes from the pilot holes in the vent housing". I'm not sure what that means, but perhaps could be repaired instead of replaced."

I also have the stupid rattle on my 04 GT. SOOOOOOOOOOO annoying - I took it in one week after buying it and according to them they "could not replicate" the noise. I hate taking the car in cuz they always get it dirty and don't take care of it the way I would like (I'm anal).

I'll try taking the vents out tonight....

Man, this rattle is freaking me out also. I didnt have it until a couple of weeks ago after I installed my MGW shifter. Does anybody know, Does the trim piece around the a/c vents/controls/stereo just pull off? Do I have to take off the trim around my shifter first?

Has anyobody messed with it and made it go away without buying the new replacement part?

This can be easily fixed with a piece of tape. And I bet you that the piece will cost less than 50 bucks so if you are worried about voiding your warranty, just go to a dealership and order the part and install it yourself. It should not take more than 1 minute to install.

There is a TSB on this problem. It is Article No. 04-5-3. The replacement vent part no. is 3R3Z-19893-AB. Rather than order the two vents from a Ford dealer, at $45.00 each, I found them on Amazon and paid $65.00 for a pair. Removing the old ones and installing the new ones is a snap. Took less than a minute. Use a flat head screwdriver and pop them out. After going through all this, here's the problem. I still have the f....ing rattle! Has anyone come up with a handyman fix --- like tape or a piece of fabric or something. I love this 01 Stang convertible. This is the only rattle in the car and I can't get rid of it. There is one solution: remove the vents and leave them out.

Hi regarding centre vent rattle , what i did was remove vents and disassemble them , carefully as very easy to break vanes, and put petrolium jelly in pin holes and reassemble, no more rattles , done this 3 years ago , but car is not used much , may be able to get it around pins without pulling them apart which would be better as vanes are very easy broken.
