I got some 275 40 17 bfg drag radials on tribars.

The best 60ft time that I have got so far is a 1.94. I have only been to the track 2 times with them so far, about 15 passes on them. I ran them at 18 psi cold, but they are wearing on the ouside, more than on then inside, so I guess I need to raise the pressure.

I have the eibach drag launch kit with air bag (10psi). Also strange adjustible shocks and struts, rear sset at 5, fronts set at 3. With the front swaybar removed.

I got the 1.92 by doing a 2nd gear burnout for about 5 seconds and launching at 3.5k and dropping the clutch.

Any tips on how to use these tires better. I am new to this whole drag radial thing.

here the slip with my 60ft time
60ft 1.9401
330 ft 5.4657
1/8 et 8.4721
1/8 mph 82.37
1/4 et 13.1992
1/4 mph 103.16

All I want is a 12.99 timeslip.

My best launches on DR's always came from slipping the clutch on the launch. I have gone as quick as 1.66 60' on 315-35-17 DR's, and a 1.70 60' on 245-50-16 both on nitto DRs. If I dumped the clutch it would shock the tires and they would spin resulting in a slower 60'. I managed these times with the sway bar on, stock struts and shocks, stock springs, stock UCA's, and global west LCA's. I run my DR's at around 16-18lbs at the track and 25lbs on the street.

The reason your DR's wore on the outsides at 18psi is because they are mounted on a rim that's too narrow. When you air them down, the tread cups in the center - resulting in the tire actually ride on the outer edges of the tread. This will hurt your traction.

Put those tires on a 9" rim and you should be able to cut 1.8 60' times without even doing a burnout. This is the result that I have gotten. I also slip the clutch at launch but I'm making a heck of a lot less HP than killercanary. Launch like you would in regular driving but just do it faster. You don't want to shock the tires - that will break them loose. You want to ease the power on, but very quickly.

Anyone else run 275 40 17's on a 17 by 8 inch rim? Anyone had problems with them wearing on the outside?

My regular tires on the back are bfg kdw's that are 275 40 17 and they are wearing fine.

I guess I could up the pressure to 20-25.

Man, perfect timing on this thread. I just put the NItto's on my tri-bars in the rear and was wondering how to drive them on the track. 95 w/bolt ons last dyno was 237/240hp. best time on street tires in 1/8th is a 9.155. sorry, sont have my slip w/me for 60ft. time.

Well get 60ft is almost different on other Mustangs, example like mine
I have MAC UCA/LCA (upper and lower control arms) and last year i was runing 275/40/17 Nitto DRs on stock 17" tribast and if i dump cluts on any rpms (1000-6000rpms) my best 60ft was 2.0 because car bogged down after dumping clutch, than i tryed slip clutch on different rpms and i find out 6000rpms and slip clutch work the best (1.860ft) but clutch will go south with sliping clutch
I know my 60ft 1.8 wasn't that great, but thats because my car (nose) is heavy and thats why it boggs down, this year i runing 315/35/17 on 11" Cobra Rs and Lakewood 70/30 front struts so 60ft will be different I hopeso

Raise the pressure to 22 psi or so and try that. Also, slipping the clutch is best for traction with DR's. When my 95 ran low 13's I would leave at ~4200 RPM and cut high 1.8's on regular radials and low 1.8's on DR's with about the same launch technique. That was with all stock suspension except for the rear LCA's were poly/poly bushed CE units. My clutch hated me but never gave out.

i pulled 1,79 on my 275 nittos@19psi leaving at 3 grand and letting the clutch out slow that was with all stock rear susp now, with my new stuff back there it bogs at 3 so i'll need to move the rpms up a bit i guess searching for my first 1.6 sixty

Well if you're racing at Little River there's your problem. Little River's track prep SUCKS!! I go to San Antonio Raceway now in Seguin. The best I could pull at Little River (on street tires) was a 2.3, in Seguin I could pull 2.1's.

EDIT: Oh, and NEVER just floor it off the line. Ease out of the clutch and into the gas. For what it's worth, I raced my friend the other day (modded 2000 GT w/dr's) and slipped the clutch at 2500, and beat him by half a car length off the line, and this was on regular street tires. That technique seems to work the best.

Do you slowly let out on the clutch while applying the gas, or do you slowly let out the clutch and just floor it?

Slowly let out on the clutch while applying the gas

Managed best of 1.79 60ft stock engine, exhaust, 17x9 03 wheels and BFG DR's 275/40/17

On my 275/50/15 DR's with Prostars and skinnies, I did a best of 1.66 with the current mods.

What psi were u running? My rims are 17X8 does that mean I need to run higher pressure like 20-25 psi?

On the 17", I was at about 14-15psi cold
On the 15", I was at about 11-11.5psi cold

You have dr's, you should set your pressure between 13-20psi. Do a few runs and take note of psi, trap speed, 1/4mile time. Compare to see what works out for you best.

I never put my 17" lower than 14psi. Didnt work too well for me. Wanna see how 11.5psi looks like ? (look at the wrinkles) :D
