hey ive got a limited slip differential out of an early 80's gt (7.5 inch rear end) i was gonna put it in my 89 mustang. I took it out of the axle it was in and it did not spin. The differential is out of the housing right now how can I tell if its good or not.

Thanks.

The 89 5.0 will have an 8.8" trac-lok differential. The 7.5" innards will not work in it.

Well if you have it out of the differential then it's going to be pretty hard to tell If it's toast or not. You'll have to look at the clutches and guess if they are worn or not.

I'd go ahead and rebuild it anyway.

I take it that this is a 4 cylinder car or a car that started life as a 4 cylinder car.

Still is a 4 cylinder but i am building a 302 (bored 30 over) with 351w heads. What does a rebuild kit consist of and you know sites where to find it?

If you are building a 302 do yourself a favor and swap in an 8.8 rear.

There is no self respecting 302 that couldn't shatter a 7.5 if it really put its mind to it. hehehe

Even the stock roller blocks made 300 ish ft/lbs of torque. Damned near everything you will want to do down the road, will be simpler if you beef up the rear now.

Pull a whole assembly from the JY if you have one handy.

I bought a trac-loc rebuild kit from www.SummitRacing.com a few months ago, but it was for an 8.8" rear end. The 7.5" kit may be different.

Put any good torque on that 7.5 and you'll shear the teeth right off.
