How does the Z-bar work?

Does anyone have pics of how they're Z-bar is assembled in thier car? I am converting from A/T to M/T and can't figure out how the z-bar attaches to the motor. I have it attached to the subframe side, but am stumped as to how to attach the other end. I don't really wan't to cobble something up, so please help!!

Thanks for any advice ahead of time!

In the picture, part number A16 threads into the side of the block. Ford changed the block casting, and newer engines do not have this boss, but I am not sure what year the change was, so your engine may not have this threaded hole. I believe there is a retro mounting kit available for the newer blocks.

Yeah, I believe there is a bracket that is held on by the tranny bolts that is the inside bracket.

Also, make sure you have the correct rod (A18) as there were different types for different years. I think that this may apply to the z-bar itself too, but I could be wrong.

The clutch pivot hole was dropped in the 78 or 79 model year. The auto cars also used this hole in column shift cars for the linkage.

You can update a newer block by making/buying a bracket that looks like this and attaching it to your bellhousing bolts:

Tim, thanks for the great exploded view.

I do have a 74 block, so i have the threaded hole. My problem is that I bought a clutch pedal assy and zbar from a donor granada, but i believe it may have been a 6cyl, or something, because the block side pivot is a funky bracket,

(its above the z-bar, to the left of the pedal pushrod)

but the bar lines right up with the hole in the block, so i cut the ball off and welded it to a gr.8 bolt that fits the hole. my only problem now is that I think I lost some strength here. I was wondering if anyone knows where the block pivot is available from nowadays?

Your b-side pivot looks a lot like the aftermarket ones for roller blocks.

The factory stubby ones are available from most Mustang suppliers and are much cheaper than the bracket retrofit type.

Also a note on the retrofits, they don't work with a scattershield unless you make some hollow metal posts to go under it. They were meant to be used over the thicker cast bellhousing flange.
