How easy is a clutch replacement for a SN 95?

I have the tools, but I do not have access to a lift right now. I was wondering how hard a clutch replacement is going to be for me? Do I need 2 people? How long will it take? I kind of need to get it done soon and do not want to pay a mechanic to do it. Thanks in advance for all your help.

btw its a 5speed

Click on the link in my signature for some parts, suggested parts list, and write-up...

It is done on a fox, but it is a very similar disassembly and reassembly with just a little bit less room...

Two people would make it nice at some times, but one person can do it if need be...

The 5spd's are the only ones with a clutch, the AODE (automatics) do not have a clutch to replace

Ok so having 2 people would be nice. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that lived in the greater San Diego area that would be possibly willing to help me with the change out. I could pay for your gas and some beer and food. Just a thought.

1. Remove exhaust. (H pipe )

2. Remove drive shaft

3. Remove cross member

4. unbolt and drop the transmission

5. Curse and swear from getting the tranny out.

6. Remove old clutch, re install new one and reverse order of steps. Cursing and swearing can be done at any step along the way.

its not a hard job. have a long extension, a few swivel sockets. get the car up as high as possible. start by taking the shifter boot off from the top. i personally drain the fluid out of the tranny to avoid a mess out of the tailshaft when taking the drive shaft out. its pretty straight forward. when u tighten the pressure plate down, use a torque wrench and tighten to i believe 20ftlbs. with an air compressor and air tools you can do it in an afternoon.

the fastest i have gotten the tranny out of my car was about an hour and a half, all on the ground. it can be done just make sure that you drain the tranny as mentioned above. trans fluid sucks to clean up. have a stab at it, and if you run into problems jump back on here and post it up. have fun.

Its not a one man job.

Well it can be but you will hate it.

And make sure the people helping you dont drop a 3/4 in drive socket with a 10 inch extension on your face.

I'd use two people as well. I also suggest having a jack ready to take the weight of the transmission. I bench pressed mine into place and I hated every second of it. Because you're on your back, you can't use your legs to help you drive it up. Misery.

The tranny is somewhere in the 80lb range if I recall...

I dropped the tranny with the aid of a jack stand and a 2x4. If you take your time to set it up properly, it's not that terrible.

I'd say taking it out, and putting it back in is the only real time you need another set of hands.

Unfortunately I couldn't finish my clutch job because of a seized bolt on the starter which holds the bellhousing on.

2 guys, 6 hours for your first time (give or take)... instead of getting the FW resurfaced pick up a new one or get a used one resurfaced ahead of tiem so you can keep the momentum.. work your way in then work your way back out...
