as far as the 4V engines go they are not very good at all. the bottom ends are weak and the heads arent good either.

hold out for an 03-04 cobra engine of a manual mach 1 engine with the good crank

What kind of wheel numbers do the the 98 cobra motors make out of the box? What about with H/C/I and how much to the wheels can these motors hold? peace

I think I remember them putting down around in the 250's to the wheels stock. I actually bought a '97 new but it didn't have much torque down low and really wasn't much fun to drive - Gears would have helped. I don't believe the heads were that bad, but (as mentioned) - Disastrous effects happened when power adders were added.

305 to the crank which is around 260 to the wheel. Like I said before these motors weren't designed to handle boost. The pistons and the rods are weak but the crank is good for a 6-sec dragster.

So if i was to have a stock 98 cobra engine with headers, cat back .What else would i need to make at the wheels 319HP/339TQ N/A. Basically what i might do is trade a guy for my 360w saleen clone for his hatch fox body with a 98 cobra motor and drive train, plus his has a 04 cobra IRS.peace

Wasn't 97 & 98 cobras the teksid block? I thought that was the best block and only rivaled by the 03-04 Terminator block....

...also, if you plan on a custom turbo application, H/C/I isn't at all necessary. This isn't like the old 5.0L OHV engine where the stock components posted absolutely pathetic flow potential.

The stock Heads/Cams/Intake on even an early 4V will take you well into the 500-600hp range with enough air forced through them....provided the bottom end is beefed up to handle the stress.

Teksid Block = Super Tough, yes....but the rotating assembly within it wasn't much tougher than that of a stock 2V (save for the Forged Steel crank shaft).

Can someone answer this question for me So if i was to have a stock 98 cobra engine with headers, cat back .What else would i need to make at the wheels 319HP/339TQ N/A. Basically what i might do is trade a guy for my 360w saleen clone for his hatch fox body with a 98 cobra motor and drive train, plus his has a 04 cobra IRS. Ok from what has been said here to make some power with the 98 motor i would need to get new pistons and connecting rods and the rest would be good to go? If i swap the pistons and rod would or should i just rehone the cylinder walls?Or should i go 30 over with it,even tho it wont need it?Can you buy stuff already balanced or would i need to send it in to the machine shop to get rebalanced?Everyone is positive the stock 98 crank is good to handle 500-600 at the wheels? And when i do the turbo on it i shouldnt have to upgrade the H/C/I on it? The power levels i'm looking for is 600/600 at the wheels.I know my windsor will hold these numbers like it is,just trying to see if the 98 will and with what kind of work? What i'm not understanding is if the stock 98 makes 260 at the wheels i dont see how by just adding a turbo with no H/C/I it will put me at 600 at the wheels? Or is it because these motors love boost (of course with better pistons) peace

Full bolt ons as far as everything except H/C/I? It already has headers what else could i do besides CAI and a tune? I really dont think under drives make that much of a diffrence. What about a better throttle body? Based on your sig and numbers what do you have into your motor money wise? peace
