I have a 1989 Mustang 5.0 Notchback. The E-brake does not work on it, so I took the back wheels off and checked them, and the 2 cables going to the wheels are still intact. I then crawled under the car and found the main cable leading from the back to the handle inside was broke. The car still has the braket that connects the main line from the handle to the wheels. It hangs there and occasionally when im driving i can hear in grinding against the driveshaft. I went and bought a new E-brake cable from Autozone. My question is, how hard is it to hook up? What all is involved to get it on there? And finally, do I need any special tools to install it? Any help is appreciated.

I fixed this same problem on mine yesterday, very easy to do...no special tools required ( although a friend and beer helped alot ). Just take the center console out ( two srews on each side below the armrest ) and the top piece is held on with two phillips screws. Pull the old cable out if their are any pieces still in there and have the friend feed the new cable through the floor ( bottom to top) . Loop it around the e-brake spring thingy ( you will know how it goes when you see it, really simple ) then to put the two rear cables on it, just crawl underneath and pull the forward cable to the rear while you slide the two rear cables onto it. Then just put the console back it. The final step is sitting back and drinking a beer and another beer and another beer....
