How hot does a alternator get?

I ask this because I just received it. I want to paint it, but I already have rustoleum black spray paint. Do I need to really put on high temp engine paint? Is this pulley suppose to have 5 little ribs in it? I thought it was a 6 rib?

The belt should have 6 ribs, the pulley will have 5... Kind of an optical illusion. The alternation gets EXTREMELY hot...

it gets wicked hot. use high temp paint.

Like bdcardinal says, it gets WAY hot, use the highest temp paint you can find. I used 1500 degree paint and its holding up well...excessive...yes...but I didnt want ANY flaking.
