How many feet of cable for Battery Relocation? And what Gauge?

I want to put my Battery in my trunk in the spring, but I need to get some cable. I'll probably use welding cable.

Would 1/0, or 2/0 be good? And how long does it have to be? Is 20' enough?

Also can I use a 4g battery cable for the ground cable? or does it have to be thicker?

Do I have to have a cut off switch for the track? I am going to get a vented box, and put my Optima in it.

just use 4 Ga wire,
About 6 feet of positive wire
and about a foot of negative,
You can ground anywhere,

As for the switch you have to check your local track regulations,

-Use 1/o from the starter soleniod to the cut off switch... I used around 10ft or so.
- Use 2ga wire to connect the negative side of the battery to the rear quad (2ft or so).
- Also use 2ga wire to connect the alternator to the cut off switch(10 ft or so).
- Don't forget to use an inline fuse there.
- Use 2ga (2ft)wire to ground the engine to the front sway bar
- Use 10ga(2ft) wire to connect the the front sway bar to the firewall.

What feet you need will depend on how you route it, you should also use marine battery posts....

Forgot mention that you should use 1/o to connect the positive side of the battery to the cut-off switch (about a ft or so)..

When you wire the alternator up what wires frome the alternator go where? any one got a diagram on this ? I need too do this too my car.

Summit sells a relocate wiring kit. It has everything you need. Also run a new ground from the engine to the frame under the hood.

I moved the solenoid to the rear also, so the wire to the front is only live while starting, little more work but worth it IMO

Ive had no problems with the 2 gugae cables. And lately, its been freezing here in NY. I think it was down in the single digits last week and my car staretd right up.

i've got 2 gauge wire and have had no problems and we had a windchill factor of around 15 - 20 below last week when I had to move the stang and it fired right up, no probs.

hey man just curious is your car 1/2 scale or what? how did you get away with so little cable???? i used 25ft of 1/0, i ran the 1/0 from the cut off switch to the solenoid(approx. 15ft) i used 1/0 from battery + pos. to the cut off switch, and 1/0 from - neg. to quad shock ground. i used 20ft of 2ga from the alternator to the cut off switch, and a short piece of 2ga from the timing cover to the sway bar mount for a engine ground. be sure to use welding cable as it carries crazy amounts of current and is very flexible.

what r yall trying to crank an inline 6 diesal i work on freightliners for a living and most of them only use 2/0 at around 10 feet long. 2 gague is fine for the main line and 8 gague is good for the alt, 4 will work for the grounds just a side note a buddy of mine cranks a 16to1 comp motor with bout 8 feet of 4 gague with no problems
