how many of you power shift at the track ?

I don't and I admit I'm relatively new to the track. I've been 4 times and have around 20 runs under my belt with street tires only. Only one time that I went was there a prepared track and that's when I achieved a 13.69 @ 104.6 mph with an almost 2.2 60 ft time. I have a stock clutch and tranny.

I do NOT powershift as many who have seen my car run can attest to. I did it once a LONG time ago when the car was running in the mid 14's and it only netted me a tenth, and with this TKO I physically can not powershift the thing.

I watched one of your vids and it sounded like you were power shifting on that one run. You could hear the revs pick up between shifts shortly before the trap.

When i realized that I could powershift my stang, I dropped my et from 14.8 to a 14.4 with the air silencer still in the fenderwell. With a lil practice and some pullies, I went 14.2 with a bag of ice on the intake for a half hour before the pass.

mto502- ha ha... yes you are right. I was going to reply back that I never ever powershift.... but then I watched that video of the 12.5 at 108mph pass and remembered I did powershift 4th on that run. Honestly, that was the only time I've done it with my current combination. I have had trouble shifting my TKO at high rpms and have missed a LOT of gears in it, so many in fact that I had to have new synchros put in last year, so I will not even attempt to powershift the car anymore. On my 12.31 run I absolutely did not powershift the car. Rel3rd was there that day and can attest to that. I honestly do not think I'll get much more if anything out of powershifting my car. I put the TKO in the car with hopes of powershifting, but with all the drivetrain problems I have had, I'm not even going to chance it. Hope that clears it up, I just changed the description of that video to state that I powershifted 4th.

Seems like a lot of people have trouble powershifting TKO's. One reason why i'll never buy one. I do think you'd pick up from powershifting though. But if you can't then you can't. I'd say powershifting it would go 11's.

Stump, the TKO does have an inherent problem when it comes to high rpm shifting as the synchros lack a "clutch type material" to aid in slowing them down when you are really spinning the thing, so they don't engage as quick as they need to. Bob hanlon showed me some prototypes that were made a long time ago to correct this, but they never took off and are not available. Adding air gap seems to help, but in my car the TKO will not engage if I rev it over 6100 at the track. My dad on the other hand runs a TKO that we bought and installed at the SAME TIME and he shifts his at 6500-6800 without a problem. If I get down to a 12.1 this year with my planned mods, I may very well have to take a shot at powershifting the thing again!!! Time will tell...

I did a quick search for a post I made of that above metioned run, here it is if you want to see... I did claim to powershifting 4th because I was SO close to a 12.5. I had a goal last year of running a 12.5 and hitting 108. That night was the first night I drove the car that year and I hit the 108mph goal right off the bat, and ran a VERY low 12.6 run on the pass prior to the 12.5 I eventually ran.

consistantly power shifting 4th has netted me .5+ mph and some ET

when I forget, I slow down, when I dont I go faster. I need to get where its natural for me to do it.

to bad I forgot to in the turbo mustang shootout finals :(
