How much horsepower can the stock 98 gt block handle, before things start to break and melt. I am putting in forged internals, and I am looking at running around 600hp eventually. I just need to know if I can do it with the stock block.

600hp, supposedly

Me, I would go with something else if I were starting from the bottom up anyway.
? is there another shortblock to start with? Just wondering cause it seems all the ones I see are stock blocks that have built bottom ends?
But to original poster it appears they will support 600rwhp the real ? is how long will they support it.

Something else, as in a completely different engine (like the 5.4 swap, the 5.0 cammer, or a 32v setup from a Mach for $5k).

Pushing a stock block, in my opinion, does not do much for my goal of streetability with high mileage.

no problem using your block, if you put good internals like you describe , everything will be fine. stock internals, crank, rods in particular wil start having problems around 500 hp. the blocks are not the problem at all. That is a 5.0 thing, where you get around 500 hp and the internals are good but you make two 4 cyl out of it.
