how much did your five lug conversion cost

hey guys, i am considering converting to five lug this summer, but I am on a college boys budget. I am curious how much your five lug conversion (sn95 spindles/hubs w/ '99 GT/V6 twin pistons, and ranger axles for rear) cost you?
If possible a price list would help.

Well, no one is cheaper than me. I bought a "good set" of ranger axles for about $60, then bought Moroso studs (long ones) $30 more, scored the drums for free!
I did the front differant than you, the sn95 seemed to be a pita, as you need spacers, all kinds of brake piping mods, and an adjustable proportioner. You also need spindles, rotors, calipers, etc....I was trying to get my car up and running asap, and I would say the sn95 stuff is worth the time and $, but I just needed cash other places worse. I lucked out and bought a set of SVO mustang front rotors for $50 on ebay, the guy even sent the bearings and they were all good but one. I am 5-lug! No mods needed, just rotors and go. I would highly suggest this method if you are on a budget.

BTW, you can't use SVO/Mark VII Front rotors with many rims. Or most of the SN95 rims either.

nice list BlackFox5.0, I dont think im going to have the $$$ for cobra stuff, or even rear disks (for right now anyway). Anyone else got a list for me?

gearheadboy, I would do the SVO rotor and such, but I plan on running 99 cobra rims.

I'm currently in the process of doing the same - so far:
2001 GT spindles, calipers, rotors, pads, hoses $130 (all used - probably won't use rotor or pads)
1999 15" wheels w/ very bald tires $60
1995 5 Lug Axles $60
1995 Rear brackets $60

I can get a set of loaded rear rebuilt calipers for $120 - I think that's the route I'll go there and I want to get a new MC w/res just because I don't want to trust a used one.

I want to upgrade the wheels to Bullits at some point, but for economy's sake I can simply put my good 4-lug tires on the 5-lug tires until I win the lottery or the wife says I can spend the $$$

I'm also going to slowly buy the front brake pads, all rotors, prop valve, T-fittings, etc as money permits.

You must decide which wheels you want to use.... The easiest way is with Lincoln rotors and Ranger axles. But, you cant use many of the latemodel ford rims. Try this site, www.svo73mm.cjb.net it will tell you everything you need. You can source many of the parts from other vehicles: Ranger, Aerostar,and Lincolns. With the Ranger you can only use one side (cant remeber which). If you want to run Ford rims you must use the front spindles and associated hardware from an SN95. Only if you want rear disc brakes do you need a proportioning valve. I know I left alot out,but check out the web site and it will answer all your questions...

Actually, the "easiest" way (which is almost never the cheapest solution) is the Baer "M2300-K Killer" kit. But it's $2000.

Brothers Performance sells a kit that comes with 5 lug direct replacement front rotors (not lincoln rotors), 28 spline 5 lug axles and brake drums for around $450. This is the most cost effective 5 lug kit ive seen.

Can you advise what year lincoln rotors and what year and side Ranger axles to get?

'85-'91 Lincoln Continental or Lincoln Mark VII, or '84-'86 SVO. Front rotors (will not work with most Late model mustang rims)

You need 2 '83-'92 Ranger/Bronco II Left side (Drivers) axles from a 4cyl or 3.0L V-6 with the 7.5" rear end, or 2 '86-'97 Aerostar Passenger side axles. You can mix them up and combine axles from a Ranger, Bronco II, or Aerostar. If you want the drums too, then take them too. Or at least the backing plate that bolts to the axle, and has the wheel cylinder.

Or you can do like I did. Went to a junk yard on an "everything you can drag for $50" day. Now take into consideration I was there for quite a while doing this....ripped the entire rear end out of an 87 LSC (disc brakes!) and then yanked the spindles of a wrecked SN95. Only ither things I needed to buy was nnew brake pads all around. Went to my dad's shop and turned all the rotors myself. Easiest way to do it in my opinion...and all for under $100

how much would ranger axles run?? wouldnt it be a better invetmetn to just get mosers or something while your in there?or would u have to change the posi unit and whatnot

wow, thats a good deal. I would do that, but finding a wrecked SN95 by where i live is like finding a million bucks. I supose I'll have to drive up to denver or something...

Does anyone know what front rotor that Brothers Performance kit uses? Does it work with various mustang wheels, or does it have the same hub clearance issue as the lincoln/svo rotor?

I've got 2 axles for the rear that I will let ya have cheap, I ended up going with the rear disc, I'll sell em both for 30 bucks plus the shipping, let me know where ya live and i will give ya a shipping estimate.

I think I ended up with about a grand in my whole conversion including tires and wheels. I had alot of stuff donated to me by a friend who had a 95 model car he was parting out plus i did the whole conversion myself with some aid from my girlfriend.
