Hey, i am new to this forum, and in the future maybe next year, as soon as i get some money, i am planning on getting a mustang saleen. Since i will have about 1 year driving with clean record (hopefully next year it will be clean) i was wondering how much you guys payed for insurance. I heard that it is quite expensive. Just to get an idea, i am planning on getting 99-04 saleen (new ones are too expensive) It it all comes out too expensive i am planning on a replica, maybe a $12g mustang, adding around 3gs on body and wheels etc, what do you guys think?

I pay 88 a month but when I had my same year GT I paid 180 a month. I know it does not make sence I even had them cover it for what it is worth. But when I first got my GT I was 20 and i was paying 330 a month. So it all depends if you think it is worth it.

That sucks for your Saleensc281 I am 24 have a speeding ticket and live it on of the highest unisured motorist states wich makes my insurance go up and I only pay 88 a month it to is though state farm

It all depends on what discounts you have as well. Since you both have State Farm, you know they go strickly by the vin number on the car. I pay insurance on a 95 GTS Coupe and a 97 lx convertible. The 85 is currently uninsured since it is in 1,000 pieces. I pay $150 per month for both cars plus my daily commuter motorcycle. Once you hit age 25, the age and driving experience really mean nothing. When I was 18 and I just bought the 85, I paid a mere $73 per month for full coverage with $500 dollar deductiables......

True they do go by vin# but I made sure they insured it for what the car is worth that way if i wreck it I will not get paid for a GT

When my 85 caught fire and burned to the ground, State Farm covered every penny and then some. Make sure you have all documentation from Liz @ Saleen and you should be fine. I even took pictures of the car, trophies, any and everything to give the car a higher value...

They used NADAGuides as well as what the market was bareing at that time. Reps from State Farm tried to find a few examples of what my particular car was selling for else where. They even contacted Mark at PerformanceAutoSpoet to get information. I guess I was luck because not too many 85 Saleens were for sale at that time. It might hurt if the claims adjuster finds 20 different 2002 S281's for sale ranging from $20 to $35 grand. If your car isn't paid off, I would suggest that you also have gap protection....

Bought the car for $7,000 in 1998
Received $15,500 in 2001 from State Farm after this happened:

man that sucks how did that happen. you know what does not make sence with mine is i used to have an 2002 Gt i paid 180 a month for it now i have a 2002 Convertable S281SC and i pay 88 and my driveing record is the same and i made sure they would cover it for what it is worth. They were both though state farm.

Can't explain that other then?? Maybe your agent gave you additional discounts for the S281 that you didn't receive on the GT

Had a fuel line leak at the carberater and made the mistake of trying to limp it home, :notnice: idea!!!! As you can see, I didn't make it. I was less then 2 miles away from the house when I smelled fire...... :damnit:

Yeah I guess it is. Although I have the hightest coverage they can offer, and my deductable is $250 not $500 like alot of people have! It is insured as a Saleen too, plus I have GAP protection through my bank as well!!! So Im covered!!!!!!

I am guessing it will be too expensive to cover a real saleen for me, i will be starting college next year, and i am going to need the money i would spend on insurance, i think i am just going to buy a regualr GT and convert it into a saleen replica, i will pay less for the insurance maybe 120 for the car. It really makes a difference.
