the other day i was driving my car and for a few minutes the car was driving really sluggish, i was starting to smell smoke so i pulled into a parking lot and my brakes were smoking, that's when i noticed that my parking brake was still on. i was mad because there have been a few occasions in the past were i did this but realized that it was still on when i would put it in gear and not be able to move, not this time though. anyway it still holds when i'm on flat ground but if i am on a hill it doesn't hold so now i jsut park it in 1st gear, how much does it cost to get your parking brake fixed?

The parking brake engages the rear calipers on the rotors.

Driving with it on could cause the rear brakes to heat up and glaze making them not grab as nicely.

The fix? A rear brake job.

You might get away with some sandpaper on the rotor surface and pad surface. It might take the glazing away down to fresh material.

It all depends on how bad you scorched them

Tirerack.com has Brembo blank rear rotors for $32 each for the GT. That's pretty close to parts store rotors pricing.

As for pads, i try not to run parts store pads. EVery set i try squeals. I just stick to OEM pads now

I'd try to take off some of the glazing with sandpaper before tossing in the towel and buying all new parts....unless you needed a rear brake job anyway

Dude, did you not see the red light on your dash or notice the drag on your car

Anyways, get a Haynes manual, some of the previously mentioned brembo rotors, and some new pads and go at it

Be sure and lube the caliper slide pins well with the correct lube.

Be sure and use the correct tool to turn the caliper pistons back into the calipers.

Look up on the internet the proper way to avoid problems with the emergency brake cable where it connects to the caliper.

And be sure and change the brake fluid while you are in there

They do? You sure about that? They dont have a drum within the rear rotor hub that engages its own mechanical e-brake??? I dont remember them engaging calipers.....
