I've got a 96' GT and it seems like the transmission grinds when I floor it in low rpms in 3rd or 4th gear. I'm not talking about extremely low rpms, i'm talking acceptable areas. Also I think my 2nd gear syncro is on its way out since it grinds sometimes going into 2nd. Lastly, sometimes it wont let me shift into reverse until I really jam it in there. This is with the car on or off which leads me to believe its a tranny/shifter issue. Basically if I brought it to a tranny shop all said and done how much would it probably run me?

Would I need to buy the rebuild and the syncro kit? Or does the rebuild kit do the syncros also? I dont have a problem with dropping the tranny or anything, but i've never done transmission work before. Do they come with detailed instructions, and how easy is it to attempt?

i would leave tranny work for a knowledged mechanic. you can also just get a used t-45 or upgrade to like a tko 500/600

I'll leave the TKO explaination to someone else, but I have found quite a few TKO 500's and 600's new and complete with the bellhousing and yoke (if needed) for between 1800 and 2100 on ebay. Basically, if you put a TKO in your pony, you probably wont ever have to worry about the tranny again for as long as you own it.

To me this is one of those parts where buying a brand new unit makes more sense then fixing what you have.

Ahhh. I'd just get one from a junk yard/auto wrecker.

I agree with Tim. You can get a new t-45 for 1K. Rebuild dosn't make sense unless you are an experienced tech to do it yourself. If you have the extra cash, get the TKO if you want the best.
