When i was 16 i got my 88gt, sold it at 17, bought a 99gt, sold it and bought a 95 Bronco. So here i am 23 and finally able to purchase a fox body so that i can smile while driving again. I havent had a mustang for almost 2 years, my problem is i dont know what to give for one. Im looking at an 89 with 179,000mi. for 2900. I feel like i could do better since i purchased my 88gt in 2000 for only 3500 with less than 100,000 on the ticker. I guess i didnt realize what i had, and it was even clean, looked like a 50,000 mi. car on the inside:bang: . Regardless, i just need some insight on what to look for on these higher mileage cars ie underbody rust torque box, anything. I am mechanically inclined however i dont want to put 400 million dollars in something thats not worth what i bought it for. Thanks in advance.

I would say thats high for a gt/lx 5.0. I hope your talking about a 5.0 not a 4cyl for that price and mileage.

Just food for thought I just bought a mint 87 t-top 64,000 mile manual in NJ for 3,500.

Soo I would keep hunting to be honest.
Good Luck!

5 years ago I bought my notchback with 88,000 miles, perfect interior, paint, wheels, engine. It was nearly stock and even had a working ash tray door. I spent $6,000. Prolly overpaid a hair, but I fell in love and bought her.

So if you are willing and able to dig a little, you should be able to find a pretty sweet car.

on the other hand, a buddy of mine just picked up a 4 banger auto notch with a decent body and nice interior for $600.

keep looking. the one you want will be out there.
