How much extra grease goes in the pilot bearing hole with a new pilot bearing?
I am concerned that the excess may find its way between the clutch disc & flywheel surfaces.
I typically use a very light film of molly lube. It's not supposed to turn to liquid when it heats up. I've not noticed any problems using this method. The one time I used high heat bearing grease I didn't find that it was slinging all over my clutch plate but it did seem to attract a whole lotta clutch dust after a period of time. The molly lube didn't.
Amazingly, none. The roller pilot bearings are pre-greased and do not require anything additional.
For installation purposes only, I would place a very light film of heavy grease on the end of the input shaft, as this will help your transmission installation a little.
If you put too much, the grease will end up on the clutch plate, pressure plate, and bell housing.
I've never used extra grease in a pilot bearing hole. Doubt it would find its way into the bearing anyway. Just make sure there is grease in the bearing (should come packed but check it anyway) and drive it in.
I also agree, none. I've never packed any with grease, and have always been fine. they're not desigined like a wheel bearing where the sides are open to pack grease in.
