I've been monitoring this website for only 6 weeks, but the recurring ills of the 05 stang seem to be mounting up, and I'd like to hear from those that are experiencing problems. I realize that owners that are having a positive experience are less likely to post than those that are pissed off, but I'm considering waiting for an 06 model if it will mean fewer problems.

Here are a few common problems that I have seen discussed repeatedly:
1 fuel tank
2 Shaker skipping
3 front end suspension noises
4 water leaking in
5 hood vibration above 75 mph
6 computer engine mgt

I'd like to hear about other common problems as well as happy drivers. I know this is a great car-I have one on order-but I'd like to know if ford is using the 05 buyers to shake out their stang mule.
 
Overall, i'm happy with my 05 GT.

I would have been happier with a new Corvette or Carrera 4S but I'm currently financially challenged like most of you.

The 05 GT is NOT a true sports car. I know that. It's the compromise most of us have to make.

But for the price, there's little that's better.

Well here is one happy owner, and I did my fair share of bitchin' when I was waiting 4 months for delivery!
My personal experience:
1) No problems will fill ups (yet)
2) I have a "B" series shaker (03 FEB build date) and have only had one CD skip once. No big deal.
3) No suspension noises, but I have heard the stories and you can bet I have been listening.
4) I've never heard of water problems. Did they forget to roll up the windows? :rlaugh:
5) The hood stops can easily be adjusted to prevent any problems here (I didn't notice any problems and I went well into triple digits).
6) I don't know if you are referring to actual problems here, or the fact that the throttle response can be very slow. I have seen a couple of complaints about the check engine message, but they are few and far between. The throttle is designed to be that way to prevent wear on the engine and tranny. I don't particularly like it, so I will have it recalibrated when I buy a supercharger. In the mean time I'm keeping my warrantee in tact just in case #1 or #3 show up.
 
I dont think you will have an issues with the tank or the shaker issue if you buy now. I got mine back in 3-3-05 and it had ver b shaker and no issessues at all.. I dont have the hood issue( I dont think). dont see water leaking in.. but I do have to get my tank replaced and I have a noise from the fan which I need to tell them about.. its not too bad.. but it should not be there..
 
It's all about your state of mind. My 05 has been in the shop for the last 7 days getting it's ills looked after. The revised gas tank finally arrived. However after they tore the existing tank out they found out that there is a new TSB reporting that they must replace the drive shaft bolts with a newer bolt so that took an extra day. The Shaker is on back order as I have an "A" unit. The replacement rubber window seal part is due in today. The new master cylinder was put on yesterday. The lack of heat to the floor they can't fix. And the list goes on, and on, and on.... However...

As my friendly Sevice Mgr explained it to me "It's a new model, built by a new assembly company coming down a new production line, made in a union plant. If you want perfection buy a Toyota or Lexus. Ford never claimed it's built quality was ever near, let alone equal to any of the oversea's MFG's. If you can't live with that, don't buy a Ford." See, all state of mind...

Personally I think Ford's built quality is far below what's acceptable. Let's hope they improve it soon......
 
Dean-interesting post. I'm getting more worried every day about how well I will get to know the service mgr.

His comments about ford quality not being close to japanese is pretty sad considering that my bulletproof honda is built here in the US.

Call me crazy, but I expect a lot more than just good looks and power especially when that same assembly line is turning out Mazdas.
 
Well I had the gas tank problem, it wouldn't take fuel in faster than a dribble. Got the tank replaced and it seemed to fix it but the last time I filled up it did it again. I don't know what the problem is.
One of my rear windows had a bad gasket which caused it to leak. Got that one replaced problem solved.
Yes the hoods shake at very high speeds at least mine does. Hood pins seem to be the fix for that.
Other than that I love this car. I was kinda worried about buying the first year model change too but I'm very happy with it.
 
hahahahha ever buy a car that was perfect? no one ever has. My 05 GT had the usual issue:

missing bolts in transmission which caused a noice on cold start ups. the struts will make a poping noise ((i don't care).

there is some dirt in the paint ( 4 spots very very small)(will get fixed later whe I stripe it).

gas tank isn't the real problem its the hose that connect to the tank at the fuel door. the tank is a split design and quite different. (not that big of deal - the work around is hold the handle upside down or use another newer gas pump).

my shaker 1000 is perfect.
I love the styling & the overall performance and it IS the IN car to have right now.

If I could do it all over agin I would since it's still the best car I've bought.

I got my stang in December and have a few of the problems noted:

Shaker skipping
front end suspension noises (just started)
hood vibration/lift above 75 mph/high wind
heater vents no working properly

Nothing that can not be fixed... when the fixes are ready.

Overall I am still pleased with the car. :flag:

Then again, my first couple of cars were an MG & Triumph.
They both had SERIOUS problems.

Is the throttle delay problem in automatics only?

Of the last 6 new cars I've purchased, 3 Toyota Avalons, 2 Toyota Forerunners, 1 Chevy Z28, none spent as much time in the shop during their entire lives, 3 yr average, as my 05 Mustang has in it's first two months, a total of 10 working days to date. That is just not acceptable. I just hate that Ford stands there, waves the American Flag in our face, sings the National anthem and expect us to over look their lack of caring or quality control. As pointed out by other posters, other Foreign car MFG's building cars here in the US can make their cars properly, why can't Ford? What is each companies acceptable quality control is the only truthful answer and Ford needs to step up and move up to match what Honda and Toyota are doing here in the States if they expect to be competitive today.

AGREED....mine was built a couple of weeks ago.

--no fillup problems (2 fill-ups at different stations)
--Shaker skipped once ( but looking at the CD, it was pretty scratched up)
--no suspension noises
--hood is rock solid at about 105 MPH
--throttle response is instantaneous
--no water in any interior area, under or over the car (matter of fact, mine hasn't seen anything but dry weather since I drove it home from the dealer and put it in my garage).
--all the body panels line up and are tight
--all interior pieces line up with very tight seams

Compromise? The Mustang is the epitome of the American muscle car. There is plenty of reason to buy it; it doesn't need to be a "compromise for a sports car". What would make it a sports car exactly?

I'm not jumping on you, I just kind of resent someone saying that a car that has a legacy all it's own (even one AS a sports car) is nothing more than a poor man's Ferrari or something (don't get me wrong, I would get a Ferrari if I could afford one :p )
 
There's an awful lot of whining going on in here. Anyone that thinks a brand new car design is supposed to be trouble free is misguided.

Here's a good example. Check out the recalls and TSBs on the "quality Japanese" 350Z.

You may have a point, but maybe I don't need to buy this car as a daily driver. If the 05 stang, new model or not, has so many problems that it is a weekend car only, then that's a problem for me.

The appeal of the Mustang, both new and old, is that good looks and high performance be available for the masses.

If I have to keep another car for when the stang is in the shop then its appeal is for a more affluent market than me.

My 84 gt and my 86 gt vert were daily drivers w/ very few problems. Have we evolved to the point that we have a superior product that is less usable?

Don't buy hoodpins, unless you want scratches all over your hood. I was referring too the hood stops that are OEM. If your hood is shaking at high speeds just adjust the bumpers (black rubber stops under the lip of the hood).
There should be two pair. The first is primary and is set on the outboard edges of the hood. The other two are inboard but should be a hair lower to avoid damage when closing the hood. They are screw in types and adjust easily. Use trial and error. I happened to get a nice snug fit on my first try and haven't had any problems yet!

No, like I said it is part of the design. If you can't live with it go buy an aftermarket tuner (diablo, SCT, etc.) they all have programs to improve throttle response and increase HP. I'm just waiting to break mine in before voiding the warranty.
 
Have had my car since october, no cd skipping, 2 times I had the fuel fill-up issue, just turn nozzle upside down, no more problem.
no hood shake, no popping noises, no leaks.
Car was at dragstrip with 300 miles on the odometer in early november, no problems here.

What I find funny is the people who try to compare a 25,000 car to a corvette, or bmw.
If you love those other cars so much, don't buy a mustang.

I would think that a high performance car like the stang would be designed w/ quick throttle response as a pre-requisite for engine mgt programs. I hate to void my warranty for something as simple as reflashing the chip.
 
Here are the problems with mine so far:

gas tank filling problem (fixed)
front suspension noise
hood shaking

Not too bad but Ford still doesn't have a fix for the suspension noise or the shaking hood. How long does it take Mr. Ford?
