how much heat will an engine hold up to?

i have a chance to buy the engine and trans out of this car for a great deal. it has billet rods a cobra crank and forged pistons. the tranny is a viper spec T56
heres the link to the thread with all the mods

the guy says he will guarentee everything. i plan on going thru the engine and putting all new rings bearings and seals. is the engine worth any $$ or would you stay away from it.

your opinions would be greatly appreciated b/c if it is good i plan on leaving tomorrow to pick it all up.

I wouldn't.... that fire happened for a reason, and it's most likely something o do with the engine...

Take the tranny though!

he said it started from a loose fitting on the fuel rail

I'd say it depends on how much he wants for it. I'd be willing to bet there are "some" usable parts on it. I wouldn't get it and just plan on dropping it on your car. If it was cheap enough I'd get it and tear it down.

$1300 for the built engine. that includes the billet rods from MPH
rods $2595 for rods and pistons
a canton (i think) oil pan and the ported heads with cams and springs and the upper and lower intake manifolds.

that's too much imo. I wouldn't give more than $500 for it. The crank is probably good, but there is no guaranty on any of the aluminum parts.

Fire is good at messing stuff up. Depends on how hot it got and for how long I guess. Id be a little hesitant about buying it if its still in the car and hasnt been inspected outside of the car yet.
