How much heaver is the 351 than the 302?

I'm surprised you guys are making this big of a deal over 100 pounds! That's NOTHING! Don't ever ride with a passenger because that's probably 150 or more, and don't ever fill your gas tank because that's even more weight! You better stay on skinnies because the average wheel is about 40lbs too.
When I put a passenger in my car, unless it's a 100lb girl, It feels like I dropped ancor. When I fill it up with gas it doesn't really feel slower, but has less traction issues, which is good.

Yeah i can definitely tell the difference when someone's riding with me, but the extra torque will EASILY offset the 100 lbs. And, if the 100lbs is enough to really bother someone, even if they can't afford a tubular K member and aluminum heads, you can do stuff like trunk mount the battery and get a fiberglass hood to help even things out.

normally i agree with every post you make however this one no.... if you make everything else equal (even though you wouldn't) a 351 still pushes more air than you 331.... a true statement would be a stroked HCI 302 beats a stock 351. HOwever equally modded now. if they were equally modded it would be a 393w with an HCI against your 331 and ill take the 393. not to mention you could do a sick 408 or even a 427 if your brave

i agree with you on the more power potential aspect of the 351....that is a no brainer! From the numbers i have seen, a 331 with the same h/c/i makes more power than a 351 with the same h/c/i.......not saying i believe it full heartidly by any means, thats just the dyno numbers i have seen. The 351 was also stock internals with those low compression, dished pistons, so im sure that factored into it. On the same note i can assure you the next motor i build will be a 393 or 408!:D

hey you don't hear guys with big block swaps complaining about the extra 250 lbs over the front end when they stab it and unleash 450-500ft lbs of torque between 2000-2500 rpms on a very mild 460 that you can drive everyday ...... haha

yeah u don't have to go big block to make big power, my car dyno'd 525 rwhp and 490 rwtq on motor, that's an impressive number to me on a windsor stroker that is low compression and will run all day long on pump gas. that's not even counting the bottle :) u can get a 69 351 block dirt cheap and just put really good stuff in it and haul ass all day long.

351 stroker costs money, plus i have 2 460's and c6 trannys and i have a mid 80's 351 laying around one 460 that i paid 75 bucks for that is rebuilt and it came with a c6, yeah you will definatly pick up from a built c4 because of the weight and it doesn't rob as much power but for the money a c6 with a stall and shift kit will do just fine ! sorry don't mean to rob the post just want to throw the big block torque in there......

460 into a Fox = PITA. I can't imagine stuffing one of those in a street car being worth it, except for someone mental-defective enough to think it's cool hearing "WTF is wrong with you?!" every time they show anybody.

Dont be so quick to judge! To each his own! This little car hobby we all have isnt a rational way of thought anyway, so what makes one way so wrong from the other"?

the swaps are about the same oil pan, headers and mounts as for peformance you don't have to do as much to the big block to get it to run ! to each his own... i would rather beat someone with less stuff in the motor .......

I didn't say it was wrong. I said it was a PITA, which is true; and made a joke, which is just as on topic as the boat anchor 460 was- which is to say, not at all.

You obviously have never done one of these if you think it's the same. The 460 is at least twice as hard to swap in as the 351.

I dunno, i personally prefer tearing someone up and them not believing that i'm running a small block. 460 is definitely gonna need a new tranny, custom d/s,cowl hood, k-member, custom headers, better cooling system, better fuel system. being on a budget, it just doesn't seem practical to me. but as said before to each his own. lol,if he's worried about the additional weight of a 351 over a 302, then a 460 is just gonna kill him lol.

most people that judge the 460 swap have never done it, it is no harder than swaping in a 351 i have both it's definatly cheaper to do the 460 swap ! the 460 with the common performance bolt ons is no boat anchor with the same parts in each motor 351-460 the 460 will tear the 351 up hands down ! but people that are weight conscious should not do it because a typical 460 swap adds alot of weight but they do make up for it with the torque ! its funny that every swap that i have seen and all my friends that have done it all run mid 11's to mid 10's on motor ! lets see a untouched stock head 351 with bolt ons do that through a c6 !
