unless you have at least 393 C.I, don't bother to put a 850 in a 302 based engine, not always "bigger is better".

Im running a 700 DP on a supercharged 342 so I highly doubt you need an 850.

i wish it was for my car! it's on my dads mustang. he has a built boss 351. i've personaly seen it rev PAST 9000 rpm's. it's kinda been a long argument we have, he says it makes 800 hp - i dout an 850 can suppy enough air for 800 hp... he also says it had an 1050 on it but was stolen many years ago. the car has never made it down the quarter with out breakin somptin but has run an 11.90 coasting after 2nd blew out. it now has twisted axels and hasn't moved for at least 15 years. thats the background now what do you guys think?? thanks guys for da posts!

I bought a 1000cfm demon for my 418 That was at the recomendation of the engine builder, and a couple guys on the corral with similiar stroked windsors. Good luck.

Ok now that you mention all that, the engine will need a large carb. CFM rating goes off engine size and max rpm. Its also dictated by intake type and whether you want to drive it on the street. From calculating with 85% VE and a single plane intake, the engine will need 855 to 1015 CFMs. So though way at the bottom, the 850 will run that engine to 9000 rpms. The 1050 he was talking about would have been better for power and top end than an 850. An engine hitting 9k is going to need a lot of air, and a large cfm carb has large openings that wont act as a bottleneck for all that air, but lower end will suck bad. Its like trying to use a garden hose as a straw for your drink. Would have to have some good lungs to do that.

Hot Street NMRA

What heads you got??

they are vintage clevland heads. not sure of the valve sizes.

I'm running out of box tfs "R" heads on mine, 11.25:1 compression, super victor intake, 252/262 @ .05, 110ls, .576/.576 cam. 1000cfm isnt overkill on that is it?? From who i've talked to that has built and dynoed and raced similiar combos it is the perfect size. First carb for me
