I'm considering buying a classic as a daily driver...

I'm wondering

A. Who will insure a classic for unlimited mileage, no garage etc.?
B. About how much does it cost you guys that are in this situation?

FWIW, I am 22, clean record, no tickets, wrecks...should get good student discount, and multiple policy (due to renters insurance) discount. I am also looking for costs based on an agreed upon "value" of the car...

If insurance will be just as high as a newer car then I probably won't be in a classic

I insure my car as a daily driver even though I only use it on weekends. Reason being if I apply for 'classic' insurance, they restrict your mileage and usage, and I want to be able to use it if I have to at any time.

That being said, I pay just under $900.00 per year for full coverage insurance, along with a stated value of $15000.00. This is to help settle in the event of a claim. I am 42 years old, I imagine your rates will be higher due to your young age. I have progressive insurance, they seemed reasonable, and I have had good service so far.

im 18, i have liability insurance on a 1989 VW cabby, and so I am able to drive any of the other cars on the policy. My dad, who is 38, is insured on the Mustang, which i have full coverage for, for the declared value of $20,000. We use allstate insurance, i get driver ed discount, multiple car discount, and we get a dsicount cuz our house is insured with allstate. When all is said and done, I pay $130, which covers the insurance for the 89 cabby and the 1965 Mustang. No dad doesnt help me out with insurance, thats the full amount for the insurance.

I'm 17 and I usually drive an explorer, so the mustang is a "secondary vehicle". I have full coverage, one ticket, and its in my name. Its only $55 a month! Not bad at all.

i've seen "agreed","stated",and"declared" value used in this thread.can anyone decipher this insurancese? my car is a secondary usage,limited usage(they've never looked at the odometer)car.they asked "how much is it worth?"...i said...maybe 14,000...99 dollars every six months.

Rules and costs vary greatly from one state to another, in fact they can vary widely from one county to another. I STRONGLY urge everyone to have a declared/stated value of the car written into the policy no matter the use you intend for the vehicle. I am planning on an RV policy for mine, I declare the value and choose the # I want written in for the annual mileage.

I had a 66 coupe as my daily driver, had an agreed value of 9,000 w/ my insurance company, and had an apraisal for 8,500. That being said, when a girl ran a red light and totalled it, they said the car was worth 3200 and that is what they tried to give. After about a month of fighting I got 9k but it was a bitch... Just because your insurance says ok to the agreed value does not mean that someone else's will.

I have a hard time recomending using a classic as a daily driver. I am speaking from both sides of the fence here. Trust me, it hurts being in an accident in a 38 year old car. Not a fun experience in a lap belt, drum brakes, and no crumple zones.

To answer your question, I am 23 (was 22 when I had the car) and it was only 600 ish every 6 months.

Just think about what could happen thats all I am saying... [steps down from soap box and posts a picture of the carnage]

tripple a screws me i pay 1700 bucks a year on my 68 stang jsut for liability. they wont give me collision no matter what. thing is thoguh i have to be on my parents plan i could get it so much cheeper elsewhere though but i cant cause im only 17
