is normal for the idler pulley(the highest one) i can move it back and front just a very lillte bit and it makes a click when i do it. does this mean it needs to be replaced
Hmmm...I know the power steering pump pulley moves forward and back, and it's made to do that. I don't know if the idlers are made to do that either. I think they are around 16 dollars or so....you could try and replace it.
if you think its the belt replace it, if not and your sure its the top idler pulley take the bolt out and look at the pulley. you will see there is a round piece of plastic that meets the bearing on the pulley (this keeps the bolt from spinning with the pulley) and just maybe put a little white lithium or wheel bearing grease on it. if thats your problem, im sure it couldn't hurt
My idler pulley is solid. As in it spins freely but has no play in it. no noises either. Everytime I've ever had a pulley start squeaking, I replace it. Cheap insurance to not have on lock up on you.
i would just replace the ider pulley, with the belt off if the pulley makes noise or even wobbles a bit when you spin it i would replace it. Idler pullies aren't an expensive part.
