How much $ to install gears

I just ordered my 4.10's and I am curious on how much it will cost to have someone install it... a rough idea obviously places will have different prices but I just need a rough estimate.

If you go to a mustang shop they can probably do it for you in under an hour is you have them re use a lot of stuff.

Re use a lot of stuff? Don't re use ANY bearings thats for sure... any worn (at all) parts should be replaced.

Just do it yorself only take about 3hrs, and reuse everything, just use a new crush sleeve though. This website explains how to do it yourself.

I did my 3.73's myself about a month ago , and i reused everything with 240,000kms on the odemeter, my gear pattern wasnt perfect but i got no rear end noise to speak of.

I think that is bad advice. I would DEFINETLY replace all bearings in the rear end ATLEAST. It would be STUPID not to replace bearings in the rear. You'd also want a new crush sleeve, the whole bit. Why do it twice?

I replaced all bearings, gear and pinion, clutch pack, pin/bolt, and spider gears (mine were chewed, welded to carrier pin) and it cost me $700 Canadian (About $500 USD).

Why take the chance, do not listen to the fools who tell you to reuse all your origional equipment.

Reusing stuff is not all bad. I only had 80k on my bearings. If they go ill replace them but my gear pattern and blacklash are good as well as pinion bearing preload. So i dont even care. Ive done 2 other gears in my life and both were completely replacing everything. Its about time i got a break.

lol.... You prolly shouldnt reuse everything but... i didnt want to spend any money on it at the time, i got the gears for free and i was broke, I put new Clutch packs in though and no more 1 wheel burnouts

not to hijack the post or anything, but....

I'm pretty sure my LSD is going out. I heard someone say replace the clutch packs. Is that all you have to do to to rebuild the LSD? Besides this gear kit, http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=esearch.asp&N=100&Ntk=PartSearch&Ntt=RAT-3008K , what else will i need to intall the gears?

i took mine to a mustang shop and buying 3.73 gears plus the install ran me 399 plus tax.

Helps to have:
hydraulic press,
bearing breaker,
air tools (not required, but very helpful),
dial indicator + magnetic stand,
bearing puller (I did my rear axel seals and wheel bearings at the same time at (90K miles),
inch pound beam torque wrench,
big wrench for torquing the crush sleave down....I mean big.
I forget what else, but I did it myself with the corral article...no big woop, but to do it right you need to have some good shop skills and some time...give yourself a weekend...just in case you run into trouble.... like a stripped 8mm cross-pin bolt (Frickin hate it when people put damaged hardware back into use!!!)

Oh I did the u-joints and rebuilt the trac-loc at the same time...but that's a different story all together.

I had a new diff.. new axles with c-clip ellimators, and gears for $300.. so i dont see how it could be any more than 150..

I paid 250 to set up my gears/diff, weld the tubes and 9" ends on

it cost me $900 including the price of gears to have my rear end rebuilt and a clutch installed....the spider gears were all chewed adn there was metal shaving in the fluid....i had to have a used axle chock from an 03 mach 1 put in my **** was so bad....but now its awesome and i dont have to worry bout it....if there hasnt been any work done to the rear end in awhile or as in my case, none ever, i'd say you are probably gonna find that everything back there is worn out..id rather have the pecae of mind knowing it was done right
