How much to lower car? 1 inch or 2 inches

I cant decide how far to lower my 89 coupe. Either get the ibach sportsman springs and loew "1.5 to 2 inches" or get teh eibach drag launch springs and lower it "1-1.5 inches". Either one is nice as it is going to sit on either 16 or 17 inch pony rims. So can any one post some pics of their lowered stang and say how much it is droppped? thanx

my mechanic told me 2 inches is too much (i wanted 2 inches), he says 1.5 is perfect, he knows what hes talking about, he has a stroker 347 and a new mystichrome cobra, go w/ the 1.5 inches...i am

yea i went with the ford motorsports lowering kit and it dropped it about 1.5. My car scapes a lot so i wouldnt go any more than that. Another thing is that I have longtube headers so that cuts my clearance down also, but I definitely think 1.5 looks good.

There are different ways to lower the ride height on a Mustang. The issue at hand is trying to maintain proper front suspension geometry so it doesn't handle poorly. There are a few companies (Raceware Spindles www.racewarecentral.com ) that offer dropped spindles that allow for you to use your stock springs and shocks, maintain proper geometry, and still have about a 2" drop. Nice for those drag cars and tall springs, but can be used for any application.

Anthony Jones Engineering (AJE) offers a K-member with altered steering rack mounts to maintain proper geometry in the lowered vehicle, as well.

Other than that, I believe that aproximately 1.25-1.5" is about all you can go with a spring and still achieve near stock geometry. Beyond that, you may need some help in the way of offset steering rack bushings or raised tie rod ends, and so on. If this is the route you may be considering, I'd talk with the folks at Maximum Motorsports or Griggs Racing and ask what their recommendations are in terms of maintaining proper front suspension geometry.

See my sig. Not eibach but the drop is about the same. Around 1.5-1.75" w/ 17's

1-1.5" is the way to go.

2" is WAY too far for a Mustang - Your ride will be terrible, you will more than likely eat up your tires, and handling anything harsh could be dangerous.

1" here with some 235/50/16 is probably your best bet if you have pony's.

1" for me. I already have a rubbing issue with my 17" cobras. 2" is too much to drop the car by the springs.

Yeah, stock height, 16" stallions, fattest tires possible...and I rub, but only at the tightest turns (parking lot turns).
