How much you pay to have your car repaint?

My previous '65 cost about 1500 with some Maaco ding fills, whole car shot in one color, and another shop putting on GT350 stripes. It looked like a Maaco paint job too. With my '68, I hope to keep the cost under 1500 while getting better results since I will do the prep, shooting, and finishing.

Did the $3000 include wet sanding and buffing?
The paint was strip to metal, prime, wet sanding and buff. The rust was minor, only a few at lower section of both rear quarter panel and passenger door.

Someone said that a good paint job will cost at least $5000. I think that was a bit high.

Id say that person was pretty accurate. Around me a "good" single color paintjob will run ~5k, and thats not including any body or prep work. But even this wont be considered a "show" quality paint job... Making friends with a reputable body guy is a good idea :D

I was quoted EUR 10.000 by the NL's leading "classic mustang expert." I found out this rip off artist does not have his own paint booth. Rather, he takes your EUR 5k and has your car painted by a paint shop (damn fine job in any event: strip to bare metal, prime with expoxy primer, paint, etc) and pockets the rest. I have a quote in Germany for EUR 2-3k for the same kind of job. Even less in the Czech republic.

Earl Shieb will paint any car for, $99.95!!!

Or you could put the shell on blocks on the crappy side of town...

I've got a buddy that paints in his detached garage, he's been doing it for 40 some odd years, works by himself and he does show quality work for $5k. He has some cars that he does for a collector and the results are stunning.
