Hey guys, ive had my K&N in my car for about 8k miles or alittle more and have my air silencer removed. How often should the filter be cleaned? I can't really tell if its dirty or not. Also, do places like, Pep Boys, Autozone, and O'Reilly sell the cleaning kits? I know it has to be cleaned and re-oiled and lef tto dry for a day.

Once a year or shorter if the weather is particularly bad (frequent dust storms, etc.)

I clean mine at approx. 10k miles unless as Volldamort said you encounter and drive through some major dust. Then I inspect it and usually have to clean it after that.

Be careful on cleaning the filter. Too much "oil" can mess up the MAF sensor. But if you let it sit for 24 Hours, I guess it should be ok.

They actually filter more dirt when they have a layer of dirt on them. Unless you drive in real dusty conditons, I would not clean it sooner than every 25K or so. As mentioned above, you can end up getting oil on your maf if you over oil from cleaning too often.

There really isn't anything written in stone when to clean it ... depends on your driving conditions. Just take a look at it once in a while and clean it if it looks nasty ... otherwise leave it alone. Remember a dirty K&N still flows better than a new paper filter so don't worry so much and it does filter better with some dirt on it.
