How strong is a 4.6 DOHC from lincoln mark 8

I might be getting a 94 lincoln mark 8 as a donor car for my '89 notch. I will be using the engine and transmission and all of the wiring from the lincoln. I was wondering how close the engine was to a 96-98 cobra motor? How strong are the engine internals? Is the transmission the same as a newer aode? What modifications do you recommend? I am a 5.0 pushrod veteran and new to the whole 4.6 mod motor craze.
