I bought a wrecked '68 for a parts car. It runs and has a 5.0HO EFI, AOD and 9" w/3.50 LSD rear, GW UCA's, discs, sub-frame connectors, Maier tower brace,,,,,,,,..........

Anyway I figure with all these mods the guy wouldn't just leave the stock TC in the AOD. How do I figure the stall of the converter? And will it be obvious to tell if it has a shift kit?

Gracias in advance,

Did you pull the converter and look for numbers stamped on it or at least a manufacturer?

If the car is running you can try this but it will not get you the exact stall speed because of too many contingecies such as, traction, weight of the car etc. Again this in no where near science and you said it was a prts car that is wrecked so this probably is not an option.

A way you could get close if the car was running is to put it in 1st gear and push the brake to the floor and brake torque the car paying close attention to the RPM's, when the tires begin to brake loose you should be able to get an idea of at least the range of the stall.

I've heard that method before and thought about how traction might effect when it breaks loose. But If that's the only way without getting into it, I guess it will have to do. I plan on removing/installing the engine and trans together. Thanks.
