How to get around 40 more engine HP?

Don't to hijack but how often do you guys in more populated states have to do emissions tests? I think in Iowa, about the only time they do them is when a dealer sells a car or if a cop pulls you over and demands that you subject your car to emissions tests, but I don't think it's something we're required to do routinely. Usually the biggest thing they attack on exhaust around here is noise ordinance violations, which is If you're smart, you can get out of those.

That would make your flywheel hp 279.3 on an auto, which agrees with the approx 20 hp gain estimated for your mods as quoted by one of the other guys here.

well that's correct with a dynojet dyno, but i was on a mustang dyno. a mustang dyno reads lower than a dynojet, because it based the dyno's inertia from the vechicles weight. this causes the dyno to read lower. a dynojet has a set inertia, that is based off of roughly 2,000 lbs, which cause it to read higher. with a mustang dyno you need to add roughly 30% to get flywheel.

btw- those numbers were uncorrected that i gave. corrected the numbers were 230 something, so that would actually put me at about 305 flywheel

With the mods listed below, my car dynoed at 250 rwhp. With a 20% power loss for the automatic transmission, that amounts to 312 bhp. Also, I love my 4.10s.

long tubes

Arent long tubes really hard to put on. what is the brand that fits the best and what can i expect on an install.

It is yearly, but right now emissions is not required in many counties, like mine, Johnston. That is about to change though. My understanding is that there are going to be SERIOUS inspections beginning next year, i.e., MIL lamp, stored codes, and the sniffer. And they are going to be expen$ive.

It depends on the county your in. When i got mine inspected the guy said emissions testing was not required. I live in Taylorsville. Ive heard more places will require testing in the coming years. Just call a place that does inspections and ask.

Now I have a silly question. What is the difference between a "blown" engine, and a turbo or supercharged engine? I don't understand the difference, because I don't know anything about blowers. I understand how a supercharger and a turbo work, but I don't know a thing about a blower, or what it takes to install one, or anything like that. Are they a better alternative, and cheaper, to a turbo or supercharger?

A blower is a supercharger. More specifically, the term blower was given to the screw and roots style superchargers of the 60s and 70s. I dunno why. But now all superchargers are called blowers.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I wondered what the diff. was. I guess blower is used for mustangs only though? That's all I've heard it for. Or, maybe older muscle cars too?

Thanks for the info. I'm use to thinking motorcycles. Dynojet is pretty much the standard over there.
