Never done it before, but yep, your gonna need a wiring harness. Sucks but efi is worth it. Good luck with the car!

I had the same problem. I bought the ford streetrod wiring harness. It is like a 92 so there are some pins that don't agree with the other years wiring harness. It took several hours looking at wiring diagrams, but I finally got it all hooked up. Painless wiring also makes a 5.0 wiring harness. Otherwise you need to get the same year 5.0 harness as your car.

'84, you'd be best with a complete '86 mustang chassis and powertrain harness and swap the whole thing out to keep all the pre '87 connectors working. Add the '86 up fuel system and you're in plug and play mode.

For the '89 you'll need a '87-89 (non air bag) harness and if you don't find a '89 harness then a mass air conversion kit too. Depending on how much was cut away you may only need a powertrain harness, but may need the complete chassis harness too.

Copied From bbunt302

Just for reference, here's a list of all the compatible years:

89 harness should work for 86-89 as long as you're using mass air.
90 harness will only work in a 90. (B/c of air bags and dual dash connectors)
91 through early 92 harnesses should be compatible (single dash connector, fuel pump relay under driver's seat)
Late 92 through 93 harnesses should be compatible (single dash connector, fuel pump relay under the hood)

Computers from 89-92 are all the same. Look for the A9L sticker on the back cover for a 5 speed that matches your requirements. Example: E9ZF 12A650 AA" with the A9L code.

See the following website for some help from Tmoss (diagram designer) & Stang&2Birds (website host) for help on 88-90 wiring

I have a 302 HO EFI upper and lower intake, Distributor, fuel rails, cam, and injectors all for sale. I am not sure what year they are. They are all stock items. I got the engine by some wheeling and dealing but am not sure what year it is. I changed the motor to carb so i wont be needing this stuff anymore, so if any of you guys are looking for some of this stuff for CHEAP, let me know!! By the way i dont have any of the wiring harnesses for this though. It is a roller cam and EFI so i think that should put that between 86 and 93. Thanks

IMHO, Painless wiring is by far the best way to go.

You can also look on ebay for a wiring harness. But, BEWARE!!! Often, one or more connectors may be missing, and/or the tabs may be broken. At least for the injectors, you want/need the tabs intact!

Also, you can often find a better deal on an SD EFI harness compared to an MAF EFI harness.

Ford no longer sells *both* parts of the harness separately.

Another easy way would be to get the FRPP EFI add-on kit. IMHO, that's the easiest way to go, but it costs more.
