How to identify a cobra, by VIN ?

A buddy of mine is looking at a cobra. Before he puts any money down, he wants to be sure its a real cobra and not a clone. Is there any way to make sure it is a real cobra ? Not just by the rear bumper or intake or anything, but how about the VIN ?

EDIT: BTW, its a 93 cobra.

One of the digits in the vin is different and unique to the '93 Cobra.

I'm sure someone will tell us which

just punch the vin into that mustang registry page and it tells you when your car was born, where it was born, and who the first guy was to skeet all over your back seat

The 8th digit in the VIN will be a "D" if it is a factory cobra. The "D" signifies the Cobra engine.
