how to install a tranny cooler??

ok there are tranny lines running up in front end

do you just place the cooler there and hook up the lines?

pretty much, just purchase a cooler slightly bigger than what you actually need, and take your factory lines from the radiator, mount your cooler in front of the rad in accordance with the instructions included with your cooler. the instructions will probably tell you to cut off the flared ends of the lines...you don't necessarily have to do that as long as you move the fittings out of the way...it's fairly straightforward...just be careful if you have to bend them...my dumba$$ has kinked tranny lines before

if you retain the stock cooler in the rad, you only deal with the output line from the radiator (people do it backwards, and have the fluid from the cooler go back into the radiator cooler, but I would only do that if i lived in Alaska).

the instructions should cover most of it. you should test the lines for output from the stock cooler (or whatever way you want to plumb it), but I *think* the AOD's output line is the bottom line in the stock cooler.

did you have any issues with getting fittings for the stock tranny lines (or did you cut the stock line and use compression fittings and/or slide rubber line over the cut line)?

I am not sure if a 94 has the same size fittings as a fox but I am not having luck (from what i have read, the stock cooler line that threads into the intermediate fitting is actually METRIC!). It seems a lot of the T-bird guys (good source of AODE info) actually clamp the rubber line over the stock steel line/fitting (not something I would want to do. LOL. And that does not cut it if running metal lines to the auxillary cooler). I appreciate any thoughts you might have.

I haven't put the extra cooler on my car yet (and probably won't at this point), but I did put one on my F150. I could not find the right fittings, and the kit I got with it didn't come with them. I cut the lines and put the hose over and clamped it. I should note that it's not uncommon for me to see stock lines done this way after a tranny swap or something, so I didn't feel too bad about it. If I can find the right fittings someplace I would certainly re-do it, just for piece of mind. Actually, what I'd really like ot find are maybe some with a 90 degree bend in them, to furhter ease the curve around to the front of the radiator.

I know the fittings are out there, but I haven't spent a tremendous amount of time looking as of late. I don't mind the rubber hose, but I'd prefer to have the barbed fittings at least, or braided stainless if I could put something together.

No, that was good. and the way you do it is quite common from the probably 200 threads I have read. i could not bring myself to cut the stock line though.

the 90 bend issue is one reason i ran metal line - i was able to nicely do a fairly large C (from the radiator outlet, which obviously exits toward the firewall, down through the side of the accessories and down to the radiator support - this was my bottom aux cooler line). worked well, i thought. I am also paranoid about having a rubber line crap out.

Thanks for the input. I dont think a lot of folks with 94-95's (which might have different fittings since the inlet and outlet on the radiator is reversed, as well as the radiator itself being different) have found correct fittings. pet project of mine. Thanks again Adam.
