How to make car loud at idle

That is my question. My car is great once you get on the throttle, but it's just quiet at idle. Is this the cats holding the sound back? Is it the camshaft? I'm thinking it's the cats but i'm not sure. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be great.

you don't mean obnoxiously loud right? you mean you want the rumble? Most of that is in the cam and taking out the cats and getting an h-pipe and catback can make it more noticable.

OFF road H and dumps, what I got and it has the perfect sound at idle

yep, the cats have a real muffling effect.

if you want to be audacious, you could put a cut out on (electric or cable operated). this would, of course, be for off road use only.

The whole place wailing away I have no cats and its loud going down the road, but quiet at idle. Removing the cats made it a bit louder, it was already loud. I gotta do something about that one day.

Haha,I drove my 3.8L around with no exhaust after the crossover pipe for a month saving up to get my exhaust fixed,because it rusted off right before the cat.I got revved on all month long with people thinking I was driving a heavily modded 5.0!

It sounded so freaking badass,I loved it!I wish I could get that sound back...I will once I do the engine swap.

H/C/I and 10psi's of Boost Kidding! Cats do quiet it down.But a good catback will change it also.I have a Bassani cat back and its alot louder then stock.At idle

Not to mention the choking on fumes if you sit in traffic. Its really not worth the carbon monoxide poisoning in a DD.

upgrade your h/c/i. New heads will up the compression...especially if u mill them but it all depends on the heads and i guess your pistons but i doubt if u change those right now. A h/c/i will definately WAKE your car up with performance and sound.

To answer the original question (or confirm other answers), ditch the cats, and put on chambered mufflers with no tailpipes.

Buy a pair of earplugs for when riding with the windows up.

lol yea...i thought a h/c/i were for performance gains...and a louder exhaust being a by product of it. Oh well...as long as u do a h/c/i its all GOOD

not to highjack but i have 40's on my DD they're dumped and yeah i'm pretty much tired of it, would i notice a sound difference if i took the dumps off?

if u put tail pipes on i think the "quality" of sound gets better and its not as deep. Dumps just sound deep, bassy, loud, mean. Tail pipes are still loud, not as deep, but still sound pretty TOUGH.
