"3 or 4 balloons" of acetylene? Big balloons, I'd imagine, that's quite a lot of damage right there. Must have had a nice mix of oxygen too. What a dumbass.

"naychan" read the back label of nailpolish remover. it's an active flammable ingredient that can also be in a gas state. geesh, i must have read everthing in my bathroom sitting on the toilet. stupid kids!

um...I think you are confusing Acetylene with Acetone, very different stuff.

Acetylene is the fuel used for welders, it is a gas at normal pressures and temperatures and very very flamable/explosive even with just ambiant oxygen levels. Acetone is primarily used as a solvent, and is a liquid at normal temps/pressures. It's also flamable but nothing like acetylene.

That would be correct. Acetylene is what we call an oxyfuel. It is NOT an inert gas. I get to use it almost every day at work with an oxy-fuel torch or a trackburner which is a torch on wheels to get the most perfectly straight cut. Think propane. Propane can also be used for cutting and is more commonly used for it being a bit cheaper. When the proper amount of oxygen is applied, the propane will burn at 5300 degrees, acetylene is hotter at 5800 degrees and gets to the cut quicker, I really can't differentiate the difference in the quality of the cut between the two but the acetylene saves time.
That being said I have never ever seen anything remotely like the above picture in my life. I've seen idiots light their clothes on fire on accident for being careless and stuff, but never an explosion. That's just friggin' insane, kinda cool, but stupid nonetheless.
At work we take safety seriously, heh heh. Such as using the oxy-fuel torches on quarters and leaving them on the ground to see if anyone dumb picks it up. When we're really bored we'd weld someone else's tools onto the table when they're not looking. It's always a funny prank, especially when said victim comes back to try to grab his vise grips back off the table!
