My 68 Stang sits too low in the rear. How do I go about raising it a few inches. it has 4 1/2 leafs, 9" rear, KYB shocks, and Caltracs Race Bars. Any suggestions would help. I am thinking of making some longer shackles, but dont know how this would affect the ride, not that I really care.

If the springs are new maybe the front is too high, and if they are old springs then you should replace them first. I do not like longer shackles. They look like crap.

I would loosen the rear leaf spring bolts and make sure it's not binding. If it still sits too low, then you could cut front coil 1/4 at a time until you achieve desired level of your Mustang.

I would start with a Shelby drop prior to cutting the front springs.

My '67 FB was "droopy" in the rear so I installed air shocks with a double set of bushings at each end of the shocks and also installed a 3/4 in rear anti- sway bar. Now I can have it set level or raise it a couple of inches.

air shocks are not good for mustangs, especially when they're used to support the weight of the car. Remember, they can punch clean through the sheetmetal where they are mounted. I've seen it several times. People pump 'em up so they can fit improperly sized tires, then hit a bump or railroad crossing and the shock comes through the trunk. bad situation........ Only use the springs to control ride height, never use shocks to raise a car. Shocks only dampen the spring, not assist it with holding weight.

Pyro, it would help if you could post a pic, otherwise its hard to say if the front is high or if the rear is low.

How bad is the front to rear rake? Most 'stangs had a front higher than the rear - stock. It is the norm to have the rear slightly lower than the front - just doesn't look as cool!

And I agree with 302 coupe regarding air shocks... Welding a patch to fix the hole in the rear trunk shock mounting hole was one of the first tasks I had to do to my Mach. Air shocks do tend to be a bit harsh on the mountings.

Air shocks are great if you treat them right. Double bushing each end and never go beyond 50lbs. Have done it to mustangs, mavericks, vans, etc. and never had a problem after years of use. It is the people that put 90+lbs in them that ruin things. If you do that, you may as well weld steel rods in place of shocks.

Problem solved... I just bought some Calvert Racing Mono leafs. They are set to 1" above stock. They have a 200lb spring rate. Expensive lesson...

you chose wisely grasshopper! Are the monoleafs steel or fiberglass? I don't know if I'd trust the 'glass ones on the street, but then again I've never tried 'em. Let us know how you like thew new springs and post some pics if you get a chance.
