How to rebalance flywheel

Advance Auto Parts

The guy owed me a favor, he MAY have knocked some off the price, he never said, and I never asked.

How much should it cost? I ask cause I thought the guy got to me on another deal.....maybe not?

ANy reputable machine shop can rebalance your flywheel to 28oz. Check around then check the price of a new flywheel. It may be cheaper to buy a new flywheel. Or check Ebay, Craigslist and the Stangnet classifieds. SOmeone has a used one somewhere.

I don't disagree that there are some hack job machinists out there. It goes without saying that finding a competent machinest is a neccesity in this hobby. Once you find one, why not use him ?

Certainly, if you know a good one stick with him! I live too far away from a competent automotive machine shop. Several have come and gone, some good others not so much.

I agree with the others on getting a good machine shop to rebalance it or buy a new one. I personally though never buy or use someone elses old flywheels. You have now way of knowing what it's been subjected to or how much it's been resurfaced.

I'm in the automotive business, and if you asked me to refer you to a qualified machine shop in the SoCal area I'd give you a simple answer.

I can't. There aren't any.

I know where a good one is in Bakersfield and one in Hanford, but compared to twenty years ago when everyone was good........I just can't do it.

It can be done without the crank, all you need is one of each flywheel or flexplate. Can't tell you how much to remove, only that a competent guy who does balancing will know how this is done. If he says it can't be done without the crank, find another machinst, cause the one your dealing with doesn't know his stuff.

Knowing how much to remove is the easy part (22oz). Knowing exactly where to remove it from so that it stays ballanced is the hard part...

This is not something you can do in your garage.
